Feeler: 1997 855 Awd 5Spd

Recommended Posts

yes you can. they have conversion kits..

They have conversion kits, but they are not for the AWD models which use an entirely different suspension design than the FWD delta-link. From what I understand, there is basically no aftermarket for the AWD 850 rear suspension, other than maybe lowering springs. The '98+ XC-70 parts are different, too, I believe.

This is not true for the AWD cars. We have a rear differential and completely different rear end than the FWD nivomat-equipped cars. The only options for AWD nivomats suspension is to replace it with new nivomats, find a set of Öhlins like I have (these are getting hard to find at Volvo dealers in the US), or buy the Intrax Coilover Suspension from the Netherlands which is even more expensive than the Öhlins.

3000 USD is a fair price for that car if it's generally in good mechanical shape with functioning AWD. Good luck with the sale and if it's still for sale come summer I'll probably make a fair offer.

Also, the 850 AWD only came in 5 spd manual. There were no automatics of this particular car. In '98 7 V70 AWD manuals made their way into Canada. Of those 7, I believe that 3 are in the States now and my own '98 wagon is "#8"

No real legal issues importing to the US from Canada. You will be required to change over the speedometer to one that is MPH dominant and naturally have an inspection if your state requires it. Other than that, it should just be paperwork. Importing from Europe is nearly impossible on the other hand if the car is less than 25 years old.

1. i think there were awd automatics in europe

2. my car has a regualr shocks in the rear... i dont know where you got your info.. as a matter of fact the v70 has the same rear end and they sell rear shocks

Actually there is no such thing as a stock 97 850 awd auto

there was originally 214 made for the canadian market but not all made it to canada.

I am putting bilsteins in the front this week as well as ipd springs all around. i guess when i do that i will be able to see if it is possible to put bilsteins in the rear as well.

btw the car also has door sills...do they all come with this?

Will, really look into this before you jump. It works easy going from US to Canada not the other way around. I wasted/looked long and hard to bring Uberv70's 98 awd over and it needed a BROKER to pull it off plus a lot of money and down time. It really is a HUGE stress.

Perhaps it depends on what State you are trying to import into to - I had a conversation with a rep at the DOT and a Customs Agent about this and both assured me it was not a difficult process. My conversation with them in regard to bringing a European spec car in was a whole different story however and did indeed require a broker and likely would have incurred a cost several times the value of the car.

Also a bit strange because I've seen several 850 AWDs and a couple of V70 AWD manuals in the U.S. that had been brought in from Canada.

as far as I know it only takes 72hrs to import to the states...that is what I have been told but I am not sure...Im pretty sure its the same to bring a car to canada...I think its all just paperwork...and maybe duties? I am not sure..

What kind of legal issues would I be looking at importing this car to the states? DOT inspection? Customs?

Dont believe there will be any major legalities as far as importing the vehicle. BigWill seems to have a pretty good grasp on the steps involved.

Car now has new spring seats and new rear brakes.

Decided to not put bilsteins and ipd springs in as I need the funds.

If you are buying from the states as a deposit via paypal is required and I can assure you that the car runs mints and what you see in the pics is what you will see in person.

Thanks for looking guys

Its not hard to get them to the states. I have never personally done it, but I have a few friends who have. If you want specifics, pm RZT5, he's done it with his s70.

And i've seen an auto 855 awd in the flesh, don't believe some numbers of the "rarity" you see printed on the interwebs, it really means nothing.

Good luck with the sale James, sick car. Why are you selling this and keeping the fwd?

Thanks Falcone but they never came stock awd automatic. Infact this car does not even exist in the computers at the volvo dealerships lol.

I am selling both do to the fact that I got charged with stunt driving for an illegal left and my insurance is like 957 a month so they both must go. Or I will trade it for 1500 cash plus another 850m which I will save for a project but right now I really need cash for a lawyer

thanks guys

Good deal I think, if you think my pricing is unfair or what not then feel free to make an offer
