Hoping For A Six Speed Conversion. Help?

Recommended Posts

i know that this has probably been covered somewhere in the manual swap topic above, but i read through it and i'm still pretty confused. i've had a lot of mixed answers.

anyways, i have a 99 v70r auto and i really want to switch it to a 6 speed manual... or 5 speed if i cant go with 6. I also want to keep the awd but i'm not sure if that's possible. and somebody told me that i'd have to do a full motor swap in order to switch it to manual because something about the computer. hopefully that's not the case... but if so i guess i'll have to put my block and tranny up for sale sometime soon. as of right now... i have about 600 saved up and i'm a little hazy on how much it's gonna run me total. there just doesn't seem to be much info about converting a 99 to manual which makes it difficult. anyone feel like lending a hand?

and off topic... anyone goin to the ipd garage sale on may 15th?! if so... see you there! i'll be there all day tryin to find sweet deals and maybe selling or trading some of my stuff.

THANKS :P

You have 2 trans options if you want to keep the awd, the M58 and M66. The M58 is a full time 5 spd awd trans that came in 850 LPT awd and V70 LPT awd models. The M58 is very hard to find due to how rare the cars that came with it are around. Not a single one of them was originally brought to the US, I do believe there are a few that were brought over the border and know of at least one V70 that was swapped (Big Wills). The M66 is a lot more common and came in all P2 S60R's and V70R's. The good thing with the M66 is the ability to run fwd if you'd like to. The biggest problem you're going to run into is gettting your tune sorted. I would send mogatu'r a PM or maybe he can chime in, another would be the guy from TX with the Laser Blue, but I can't recall his name.

Not impossible, but not as easy as bolting it in.

Check out my M66 conversion/mod thread on V70R.com

The mechanical aspect will also be the same as mine:

figure at least 2K in parts

XC M66 Conversion

This is the only part you have to fabricate from scratch, the shifter mount forks just have to be modified.

But, as others have said, 99-is a EMS problem, and reverse light wiring, etc, is not straight forward as it is with -98, talk to Chilled Man about that.

However, you'll love the way it drives if you can get it done.

M56 has been completed in Mogatu'r 2000 R w/ FWD conversion and M66 has been completed in 94850TX in his 2000 R retaining AWD. Both swaps were pioneered by Ajhehr here in Houston, TX. Both cars are still in limbo of completion due to limited tune-ability of ME7 and both are being custom tuned by Marco of TME via IPD and their Softloader tune. They have running tunes and can drive their vehicles around, but the tune isn't perfect and theres still tons of issues that need to be address before the cars can meet their maximum potential.
