Napa Auto Parts

...on another note, I just checked in with my local NAPA auto parts store. I used to use a locally owned independent shop in my home town but they shut down a couple years ago. I have jumped between ordering parts online as well as from our local Kragen and pulling parts from junkyards. Then I attended a dirt-track race in Reno/Fallon and got a free NAPA hat upon entry. Not only was it free but it was a great hat...not some cheapy. I know it sounds dumb but the free hat got me thinking about NAPA in a new light. Also, I liked that they were supporting the local races. Then a few weeks ago I wandered into my local NAPA trying to get a gift certificate for a local charity I volunteer for. It was then that I found out that NAPAs are independently owned and a good number of the guys from the closed parts store were now working at NAPA. The owner was more than happy to support our charity...which goes a long ways in how I chose where I shop. In this economy I want to spend my hard earned dollars at stores/shops that support my local community. Then, the other day I decided to check with them for a Volvo 850 part that I didn't want to wait for if I had ordered it online. Sure enough, they had it and they had it for the exact same price as the online store. So, I started checking with them for other 850 parts and found that they not only carry most of them but actually have them in stock. The big one was when I realized I hadn't ordered enough dash lights only after I had the dash removed. I didn't want to put it back together without replacing them but I also didn't want to wait. Well, sure enough, they had a ton of them.

So...from now on I am going to check them first. I am sure there will be items that I can get online cheaper but unless the price is significantly different I want to try to support my local shop so that they are there when I need them.

just my $0.02

NAPA = C.H.I.N.A. Company.

I got a set of rear rotors for my AWD. Made in China.........

Welcome to the 21st century :lol:

About 70% of the non-OEM parts out there, are made in China. Buy online from FCP, unless you ask for blue box it will more than likely be made in China.

I'll get stuff for my domestics from NAPA, but only name brand stuff and their Napa gold and silver oil filters. The Napa's in Michigan sell few foreign parts aside from Honda or Toyota so I never bother. As a matter of fact, the only choices we have are Swedish Engineering or the dealer, and both are expensive.

I just picked up a Bosch cap, rotor and plugs (although I prefer NGK plugs...always have) for about what it would have cost me online...but I didn't have to wait and if for some reason I got the wrong one I can take it back. I do order a lot of parts from IPD and FCP but like I said, being able to pick things up right down the street when I don't have time to wait is really nice and as mentioned is a total surprise when it comes to pricing. If I get really bold I might start asking them if they will match prices. In this economy you would think they would be willing to cut into their profit margin a bit if means keeping a customer.

and now Volvo = C.H.I.N.A. but let's keep our fingers crossed that they won't mess with them too much. Then again, I love the 850s and since there are a ton of them around I guess I can keep fixing and driving them for quite a while.
