Thanks ! You could try running a CD lens cleaner first. If you are more capable then open it up and take a look around. One possible fault listed is a ribbon cable that moves with the cartridge that can sometimes slip out of position. I have one that just shuffles as well, but I believe it needs the laser replacement(just lazy and do not use CD's). Can also buy a 6 disc changer to play cd's that plugs in the back. revolvolution09
Sounds like laser not reading 'em.
SlapShot
So the vast majority of the 901s that wont read discs might be because a ribbon cable is disconnected or the laser is dirty/out of alignment? I have a spare that i might crack open and check out now. One of my buddies might want it.
swedishiron
You can send it off to ALPINE (OEM for the unit) and see if they will repair it, depending on how bad it is they may or may not. I ended up buying one from Eerie no problems with it yet.
crazykn
I actually had to clean mine, using TWO Q-Tips (taped together to extend the length). I opened up the top of the unit, and slide the Q-Tips in and started rubbing and cleaning off the laser head. Working great since!
