faultywarrior
I saw this over on a Mazda Forum, and thought I'd throw it out for all of us Volvo Audiophiles. Your mission is to design a car audio system for $1000 or less. The car to design for is any FWD/AWD 1998 and Prior Volvo. You can use any prices so long as they can be found with a factory warrenty. Hence, only authorized vendors, no EBAY . Install labor is not part of the $1000, however accessories are. Wire harness, adapters, RCAs, power wire, even wood must be acounted for. The system can include what ever you think will make for the best sound overall. You are going for DB and SQ. I think this will go along way to answer the, "Whats the best questions". To recap: 1) The car can be any Volvo that is FWD/AWD from 1998 and Prior 2) The goal is the best SQ and DB system. 3) Any equipment can be used. 4) List equipment and prices 5) No Ebay, only authorized vendors that prices can be checked. 6) $1000 budget 7) Accessories and materials have to be accounted for OK, have at it! Chilled man
What?? That made no sense... He owns a audio shop in philly . So his cost is half to 1/4 of everyone elses here . So he can put in $3000 worth of stuff compared to the rest of us who could only put in 1k worth of stuff and still be at the same cost ... soo...... JVC
I think the reason for me to build an audio system is to spend less than $1000 on it... thats why I just roll with stuff off of eBay and amps and speakers I have lying around which keeps my cost way down. Right now I could put a system into my car for free because I have everything I need to install a setup. If you're looking to figure out your audio setup go to DIYMA (DIY Mobile Audio) those guys can do work... us here on VolvoSpeed rarely go farther than a headunit and maybe some door speakers and a Sub... let alone 1k on a setup to compete in DB/SQ competitions. bdimag
no ebay... i'm out... the $800 or so i spent on speakers and amp alone would already be $1697 retail oh and i dont have the right car. I get most of my stuff from Crutchfield, with the exception of a few small things (fuses, turn on wire), I got at wal-mart (yeah, yeah, it's crappy, but w/e! This is my first car, and the system was put in 2 days after I got the car!) Oh, and the huge ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD sub and amp I had was from Musician's Friend. (which don't even remotely meet the $1K price limit!)lolwut? My post got box'd? (I don't remember typing "ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD") lol. But as it was, people in my area would literally cover their ears as I drove past! Also, my sub was rated for "Small outdoor venues", and the fact that my crappy alternator couldn't supply the power for the amp didn't help. w/e. The Volvo has a new setup, with WAY more power (lol, no alternator to deal with, direct batteries ftw! [aka 10x in parallel])
