Wiring Up A Powered Sub To An Oem Stereo

I have an SC-901 and a 40 x 4 T5 amp mounted behind the HU. The amp is 4 channel with no sub output. One of the options I am considering for adding bass is to keep the Volvo amp and use a Bazooka tube. I checked the instructions for the Bazooka and they assume signal connections will be made using the HU's speaker outputs. How would it be done with the factory units, which are all integrated cable?

Just buy the "add a sub adapter" off Ebay or use the rear speaker wires for the signal.

IMO, I would just dump the factory HU and buy a decent aftermarket for 100ish bucks, wire to stock harness, and run your sub of the pre-amps. Although I have never been a big fan of Bass tubes. If you have a few hours to spare and a little know how, you can piece together a sub/amp combo from ebay / car audio forums, wire it yourself, and have 10x the sound of the tube.

Thanks.

Got any more info about the adapter? Couldn't find it, using that description.

As for the option of tapping into the wires, assume one of the rear pillar tweeters would be fine?

That would work, but out of habit I would come off the larger woofer's. If the Bazooka route I always preferred this connection over RCA's since they tended to have an annoying speaker pop on turn on. Plus it costs less too by a few dollars.

Personally though I find it hard to believe that people buy those adapters considering that the connection is easy to tap into at both the factory amplifier or a littler harder inside the HU itself. Figure under $2 for a female RCA plug. Drill a few holes in the factory amp casing to recess mount them. Solder the connections to the back of the DIN cable plug and you have yourself the connections you want. Could even use this with a few relays or rotary switch to make an inexpensive aux-input. Ebay adapter is $35.74 shipped, type "Volvo cable" in your search.

Just out of curiosity...Have you ever had an SC-901?

I'm right there wth you about upgrading most of the stock decks,

but the SC-901 really ain't a bad sounding HU. At least to me.

ebay item 200447133646. I have one, it is the best way to go.

Thanks, I checked it out, but will that work with my setup, since I already have a 4-channel amp plugged in to that jack? Here's a shot of the back of the SC-901 (not mine).

This is the one that passes the factory amp cable through and let's you tap off for additional amps.

All while keeping your stock amp working and leaving your car's wiring system minty clean and factory fresh! ;)
