HayaCruza
Weren't some people leaving the TCU installed until they got the proper tune? I thought it was being done to avoid the CEL.

Yeah, but when you do that you get the flashing trans arrow, its not much better, but now that I think about it I'll just put in the TCU and remove the trans bulb. lookforjoe
If it's lit all the time then there is really no difference between it being constantly on or out of the car. Right; which is why you get the correct tune to begin with
matt b
Right; which is why you get the correct tune to begin with In his defense, 850's don't have the options that X70's do. Pre-98, you're pretty guaranteed to lose the option of the CEL if you go manual.....
Markymark
I have an auto RICA tune and I just left the TCU in and took out the arrow bulb...never got a check engine light for the trans or anything related to the trans. I do notice the RPM problem though but I'll just leave it like this time I have the money to properly re-tune the ECU to a manual.
SomeGuy
i ran an ipd auto tune on my manual 850 for about 10k miles. It worked great, and took out the tcu as recommended. If you dont have the money for the tune when you swap the tranny youll be fine as long as youre alright with the cel. I just liked to check my codes every thousand miles or so to check and make sure nothing else had popped up
