Turbo Separation

Recently I had purchased a 16t cold side to swap in place of my stock 13t. I'm in the middle of the swap right now, and the exhaust housing simply refuses to separate from the cold side. I've got the band off of the middle that holds the two in place, and both myself and a buddy of mine have been pulling on it for about an hour now, to no avail.

Are there any suggestions to get the two apart? I've already tried pbblaster and tapping either side to try and knock them loose.

You should be tapping on the compressor housing carefully with a deadblow/brass mallet (something that won't damage the housing), not the exhaust housing. assuming the exhaust housing is still on the exhaust, only the compressor side should come free.

if there is a gap between the two where the V band was. drive two similar size screw drivers into it 180 degrees apart. I just did this yesterday, not the screwdrivers but the dead blow hammer.

Squeeze the exhaust housing flange in a vice, you wont hurt it, go to harbor freight and get the orange dead blow hammer. Option two buy a six pack of Lagunita's amd bring both over to my house. Good Luck

Do what was said already. If the 13 is trashed just beat it off

Alternate hits side to side and it will come apart. If it still hangs on spray some penetrating oil on it and let it sit for awhile. Years of heat and moisture tend to lock them together but a mallet should do he trick. If you don't have a deadblow or a brass mallet a light hammer will work but don't get crazy.

Thanks a lot for the replies so quick, ended up using the deadblow method for about 10 minutes straight and it finally popped off.

Darth might have to put a rain check on that offer for another day :P
