Valve Seal Leak?

Recommended Posts

Alright well I know this isn't killing my car, because its been doing this for over a year, but if im driving sporty like, when it shifts from 5-6k, Especially on the freeway, it will squeak as it shifts, I'm almost certain its the valve seal, but your knowledge is better than mine.

I have no reason to worry, Should I be worrying though? And is it necessary to replace the O-ring.

Huh!? I'm not sure what your asking.

Leaky valve stem seals don't make any noise, they cause smoke from the tailpipe. Also, what o-ring are you referring to?

Squeek on a hard shift? This sounds like it might be a motor mount, or maybe something in the dash?

Edit: Auto cars are all known to spike boost on a shift at WOT, is it possible he is hearing a pin-hole boost leak that whistles?

Hmm I have been wrongly informed by my dad, thanks for clarification, the sound is like a Blow off, well same style, but its much more squeaky, and most definitely within the engine compartment (louder on the outside).

Edit- Brownie, come to think of it, I'm going to go inspect the hose for leaks regardless, I have had boost problems before.

if your timing belt slips a tooth or a few, you'll immediatly be able to tell. My bet is on your serp belt being stretched, and under full load let off's, its slipping on the crank.

Sounds quite possible, Thanks for the info, I'm not to worried now. Though if it starts making more noise I'll change it, no big deal.

Mmmm bringing up the serp belt (if it is slipping), check the tensioner. Just grab it with your hand and see if its kinda lose or just moves easily...i think their lifespan on these cars is in the upper 150k miles?

Wouldn't hurt to change the belt, but hopefully you know the sound of a slipping belt...

Feel free to take a video and post it up, generally ends up with good results

mine does it with a brand new belt every once in a while (since the compressor delete), but I don't care as all it spins is my ps and alt. How old is your serp belt? Could also be your compressor temporarily seizing, or your power steering pump groaning, but i'd bet on your serp belt.

Couldn't be my power steering pump, as it groans from now and then, and thats a different ugly sound.

Car has 101k miles, and has been maintained. so tensioner has a lot of life left?

Sorry for double post, if this doubles. I am charging my camera's battery, I'll get a video later tonight after I get gas.

This means T-5 Sexayness sound time!
