Head Unit

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a head unit that will be slightly better than the stock unit. I have no plans for upgrading the speakers amps or subs or any of that jazz. I am looking to replace my stock head unit with an after market one primarily because I want a functioning cd player and an Ipod aux port. I do not want to spend more than $150. So point me in the right direction please. :monkey:

Thanks

Nick

If you want direct Ipod control (ipod controlled through the HU):

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113MP345U/Kenwood-KDC-MP345U.html?tp=5684&tab=features_and_specs

If you want a general aux. input (use the controls on the ipod)

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113MP145/Kenwood-KDC-MP145.html?tp=5684

I swear I'm not a Kenwood sales rep or anything like that laugh.gif (I have a Pioneer HU in my wagon)

Kenwood makes good quality HU's with lots of features for the money, and have more power output (22 watts) than comparable HU's, which will help your speakers sound better. By sending a more powerful signal, the speakers get a cleaner signal, which means better sound quality. The ones I've installed/heard in my friend's cars have been very nice.

Anyways, just take a look around at Crutchfield.com and see what features you want/don't want, then pick from there.

This looks nice. Looks factory looking w.o the bling bling lights which many car stereo thieves love.

This is the one I'm thinking of for my next stereo setup. (I'm sick of the lousy 3.5mm cable snaked under my seat to the amps, lol.) Alpine makes good HU's and I love the amp I have from them (MRP-M450). Key here is though - the iDA-X305 has NO CD player. Only USB. Not an issue if you are like me and only use an iPhone (other device.) For CD HU's, I'd say the Alpine CDE-102 is a good pick.

Huh?

Do you connect your Iphone directly to the amps? There are RF adapters available

lol. Yep, I connect my iPhone directly to the amps. 3.5mm to RCA cables ftw!

RF adapters to use with what head unit? (That thing hit the bin almost a year ago.) NTM my speaker wiring has all been re-routed to the back for the amp, so as of now, I have a 6 CD hold.:D

adapters that broadcast the input on a FM frequency. Works with any radio..... as long as its a radio :P

+1. That made me laugh. Yeah. So what if you can broadcast on any frequency, (not just FM/audio related) but if there's no receiver, a lot good that does you! The head unit is there, but it's only use is as a clock with 6 CD holder slots. (Which are useless anyways, since I haven't bought a CD since Winter of 2006!cool.gif)

Not a bad idea, changes reflected!laugh.gif Good chance my entire sig. will change in 24 hrs., so I doubt it'll make much of a difference.

People refer to my Mazda as the "boombox on wheels", so I think it fits pretty well.
