Recommendations For Speakers On A 99-00 V70?

Just asking to see if anyone can recommend a good set of speakers for the V70 model?

I'm looking for a bit more smoother bass and some good steady mids. Nothing outside a factory look.

Thanks!

Never mind... just saw the link..

I'm surprised you got anything useful out of that thread. It gives me a headache. I think one of my rear door speakers is blown. <_<

Ok, I just read that whole thread for the umpteenth time. Takeaway (for V70): You can use 6.5" shallow-mount speakers to replace the front doors, and 6.5" regular speakers to replace the rear doors, but others say it's better to use a 5.5" replacement for the rear doors because of an unspecified fitment issue involving the retaining ring.

Further edit: went to crutchfield.com and found these infinity's on sale. I'm thinking of going with these front and rear and ditching the component tweeters. Crutchfield's site says they are a "fit" for the rears, but only want to sell me component kits for the fronts.

Can anyone confirm these will work? I'd like to order them and some door panel clips and a bone tool, and install them this weekend.

I'm 99.9999% sure those will fit. They are significantly smaller than the Alpine SPS's I'm running (components up front, co-axes in the rear) that fit right into the stock brackets without any problems.

I removed the speakers from the stock brackets, and the Alpine's fit right in, down to the bolt placement. If you'd like me to explain how I removed the stock speakers, IM me and I'll explain in depth.

I have no problems with clearance, even at max excursion.

I know you don't want to run components in the front, but they really do sound much better and are not much more work to install:

Ok, we'll have to talk (I'm at work atm). I didn't order the Alpines yet, and I'm now considering going with some Polk coaxials for the rears. Would only be a matter of time before doing the fronts. Thanks for being a great resource!

Cool sounds good cool.gif And I thought you were looking at the Infinity's you linked earlier, not Alpine's?? Either one will sound better than stock, just wondering

A bone tool is handy to have around for a lotta stuff, but for door panels?

Decided to go with Polk db651 for $68 a pair from sonicelectronix.com. Thanks Andy!

Your welcome Mitch! smile.gif Keep us updated on how it goes

We don't need the db651s for the shallow mount fit?

Nope, the standard 651's should clear without a problem. Their mounting depth is well within the depth allowed by the stock bracket, and there is enough room between the back of the door panel and the mounting bracket to allow full cone excursion without issues. The only potential issue is having to drill new mounting holes for the Polk's screws to fit into the stock speaker bracket, which would take all of 2 minutes wink.gif So all in all, should be pretty much plug'n'play.

The rear door speakers use a rather deep mounting bracket that protrudes through the inner sheet metal into the window channel (since the glass can't reach the bottom of the door, clearance is fine) to allow plenty of depth for speakers to fit, and to act as an enclosure (aka subwoofer box) of sorts to improve low end response in the stock system. This means you have several inches of mounting depth to work with

Now you tell me! And I was just at Harbor Freight Tools yesterday and saw those. I got something similar though, and only $4.
