steve s
fwd on the 850.. they had the 440 fwd...i guess volvo liked it enough they went ahead and did it on the 850. something about stability in the snow .. altho i'm sure many will debate the merits of fwd AND rwd in snow..as for the 900 series... gee... with all the trouble with the t5 engines on a lot of 850 from this board and with the apparent weaknesses...y would u go and stick one into a 900? simplest may be to get in contact with converse and jack the v8 into the 900.. Guest DougK
Greg that DS is much to small to take the force of RWD only use. Not enough room for a bigger DS let alone to fit a transmission in there.Project t5r, you could do it w/out cutting the firewall (the I5 motor isn't ot much longer than the older OHC 4 cylinders) its the crossmember/steering that is the biggest issue. A search over at Turbobricks would show you tons of pictures of the guy who is trying (was?) to do it.
fromtheshadows
why dont you just cut the engine frame from an 850 front clip mounts and all and weld it into the trunk (of course the trunk needs to be cut out) . insert engine and ...a mid engine rwd 850.
fromtheshadows
I have seen a lot of subaru guys who weld the spider gears on the front end of the awd setup to make a good drift car. wouldn't this work for an awd 850 as well? Broken rear diffs? I see ALOT. You know... I hope no one takes offense but considering that most of the people here can't even get their cars tuned correctly... I think there are more feasible things to do than a RWD 850.

fromtheshadows
yeah i agree. a rear drive 850 is a real waste of time. for the same amt of money you could build one of these. www.go-t-rex.com , www.indycycleonline.com thats my next project after i sell the 240. 1.9gs baby. Guest DougK
Im sorry I didn't mean to be an jerk about it... its cool to talk about no doubt, but I think getting a FWD 850 into the low 12's is alot more feasible goal than a RWD 850.(Now... T5 motors in RWD cars.. thats a different thing all together )
pennybridge pioneer
now you could put a T5 in a rwd car.....in the back of a rwd car i'd like to see a rear engine T5'd 740 wagon but that's me.
weezilUSA
 I know the typhoon/syclone guys remove the front driveshaft to make them RWD... but I think the 850AWD is FWD first... could you just remove the front halfshafts?←Uhh, are you realizing there is no rear drivetrain or provisions for it
