xjmj15x
i realized my amp isnt turning on because i can't hear my subwoofer. i had my friend turn on the car while i was looking at the light on the amp and it flashed on then immediately shut off. my sub isnt giving me any sound. do you think its an eletrical problem or my amp is fried. TRACStar
Try hooking up a different 12V source to the remote lead on the AMP, a long jumper to the battery will work. If its still a no go the AMP may be toast. If it does work pull the HU and check for 12V right at the back at the remote turn on, if you get nothing there replace HU or run a dedicated jumper to the amp with an inline switch but remember to turn it off when you shut the car off. Its ghetto but it'll work. :P

What amp is it? I've seen everything from a Wal-Mart Brand (Virtual Reality IIRC) amp that caused a pulse in audio system and would attempt to power itself from the remote turn-on lead (Sorry, but that 2 ampere fuse isn't going to cut it.) all the way up to a JL Audio 250/1 that had metal shaving inside of it. (I don't think I kept either, since both were beyond what was worth my time and effort to repair.) Also, what car is it in. I've had stuff like this happen from a loose ground before. thewhiteguy1
your amp isn't dead, you just have faultywiring
Volvowith18psi
Yea, agreed. Sounds like a loose ground IMO. Check all connections for tight / snug fit. If any doubt, tighten it more. If that doesn't solve your problem, grab a multi meter, and probe the amp for voltage readings. Any decent amp will shut down <12V. Check MPW fuse, even if it looks ok, replace it / Throw it on the OHM meter. I have had the barrel fuse blow with the filament still intact to the naked eye. It blew enough to not allow my amp to turn on, flash on, yet not enough for bass. had 7-8ish V @ the amp terminals. Good luck
BEJinFBK
Step one - Get out a meter and start checking B+ and remote on voltage levels at the amp's terminal strip. Use the ground there, too. If the voltage is low, swap the ground to a Known Good ground near the amp. Still low? Start chasing the 12 volts back up to the battery. Bad wire, Fuse holder and battery connection, etc. Or you may just have a smoked sub and the amp is just protecting itself. Disconnect the sub, then see if the amp remains powered up. And if you do wanna try jumping the remote after that, +1 on a fused jumper. A 1/2 amp fuse would be about right (500ma). You don't have to run a long wire all the way out to the battery either... It's already there! Just use the B+ at the amp.
