mrbrightside2009
Jim, pre-detonation? Yes, that would be detonation. Also, you can run a bunch of boost down low if you have a tune set up for it, and a system that can keep boost spikes under control. well mine doesn't kick in too low and i really don't get any boost spikes with my controller. Yeah, but the LPT has higher compression than the HPT ECU you're running is tuned for, ignition is gonna be too advanced, and fueling will be off a bit. faultywarrior
I don't know what the face was implying, but yes. Pre-detonation. As in when the intake air being blasted in from the turbo is so hot, when fuel mixes with it, it goes boom before it gets into the cylinder. Bent rods and prob. bent everything else. I'm sure most of you knew what I meant, but I wanted to make myself clearly understood.

To clarify, there's detonation and pre-ignition. Detonation is when the air/fuel mix literally explodes, when what is wanted is a controlled burn with a normal flame front propagation. Pre-ignition is the burning, not explosion, of the air/fuel mix before desired, which is still bad, but not nearly as dangerous as detonation. ErikS
We'll be able to put this issue to rest in a few weeks stay tuned folks my 00 R motor w/ bent rods is coming out and a new experiment is going in Dual Hampsters in exercise wheels swap? Unlike your motors, they usually live 6-12 months.

ozzimark
so what do you suggest i do to fix the advanced ignition without getting a tune right now? Live with it and accept the possible danger, turn down the boost, or run water/meth injection. If I were you, I'd just live with it, and save up for a real dyno tune

It says Pre-ignition is basically the death of an engine. Anyhow I think detonation bends rods so water injection would help alot with detonation and thus offer protection against bent rods. ozzimark
It says Pre-ignition is basically the death of an engine. It can be, but since the burn rate of the air/fuel mix is slower, it's not as dangerous as detonation; it doesn't raise the cylinder pressure quite as quickly before TDC. But yes, both are bad
