Which Gauge For My Car?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am about to buy boost gauge, but before I buy anything I want to get some advice from you guys.

I know I will buy a boost gauge, but I've seen some people have 2 other gauges...what are they?

What gauge I better have? Oil temp? air/fuel mixture? water temp gauge? autometer EGT gauge?

Actually I still don't know whether I should spend some money on gauges....do they really help or it's just for show?

I somehow think that boost gauge is helpful, but other gauges...I am not sure. I don't track my car since it's an automatic.

It's my DD, all stock. No modification what so ever.

Thank you.

Usually I'd say boost, AFR and oil press

Beyond that, EGT and oil temp. tranny temp is more important than EGT and oil temp imo if you have an automatic.

edit: gauges beyond boost and oil pressure are pretty much useless on a stock car. They're good for diagnostics or just being aware of running condition, but it's nothing that you really need to monitor.

Thank you for the fast reply.

yeah, I think I will just get a boost gauge since it's a stock car.

If I mod my car, it will be sway bars, shocks, brakes, and manual swap. No engine mod, I think.

240hp is good enough for DD.

no doubt. for a stock car, boost gauge is more than enough.

if the car is going to stay completely STOCK - DO NOTHING...

If you decide to get the ECU flashed - get a BOOST GAUGE...

Even on a stock T5, a boost gauge is useful to check vacuum and over-boosting if a sensor fails.
