Gauge Pod Installation

I'm in the process of installing a boost gauge in my car.

I considered many options:

* A-Pillar: not sure if I want to drill a hole through it

* CF Werk: installation may be quite a B...ch from what I gathered

* Air Vent: need the vent too much up here in winter

* IPD: a "little" on the expansive side for a pod but good location...

So I decided to try to build my own dash mough gauge pod from an universal A-pillar pod and follow IPD's install procedure..

Here are some preliminary "concept" pics:

Some comments:

* I molded the pod with a heat gun and I still have to do some adjustments in the back to let the wire through.

* I found some stretchable material locally that match as closely as possible the "tan" interior (may be a little darker).

* I did not glue the material yet as I'm still figuring out the way to stretch it / sow it properly to the pod (as you can see on the left side of the gauge).

* I'm not sure if I should use a flat lacquer or keep the material as is once glued to the pod.

* I'm considering double sided tape to fix the pod to the dash.

Any comments / Suggestions are welcome

thanks

not bad...but is that a dress sock?

Was gonna ask the same thing

I think it looks OK as of now...Not ghetto, but not far from it...I would have used a different material though. It's the overlapping material I don't like btw.

lol now that you mention it, it does look quite similar to a dress sock...

That would have save me some time going through a local "fabric" store.

It's the back of a "floral" print material.

I don't like it too... That's the overlap that I have to eliminate somehow..

I still have to play with the material to see where the best place the stich should be... probably straight under the gauge

as with what tomedkaz did on swedespeed: http://forums.swedes...-new-pillar-pod

Newb question to follow:

I just installed my boost gauge (52mm Omori, electric -30 to 25 lbs readings) and I want to validate with you guys if it is working properly.

1) when I turn the key to position 2. the gauge goes to zero (0)

2) when I starts the car, it goes to -30 to settle to -20 lbs

3) on hard acceleration, it goes up to 14-15 lbs (which I think is normal considering my 2.4 lpt with autotech tune).

4) when I stop the engine, the gauge goes back to -30 lbs

Now, is this bahaviour ok?

I'm asking this question because I was under the impression that gauge would remain at around zero when the engine is running (and not -20)

Mine sits at ~-20 when I'm idling, cruising it's at about -10ish, give or take, and when accelerating it does whatever I tell it to.

Thanks

Seems that the gauge is reading properly.

Now, I just have to install the material to the gauge in a proper way

I have mine mounted there as well, sunk into the 850 pocket. I find it much easier to keep an eye on there, the pillars are so big anyways i don't want them any larger.

It only raises up about 1.5" above normal height tho, and is hard to see from front or back. I used a piece of 2" id pvc pipe, slit lengthwise so the gauge would fit in.
