Getting New Car

OK, so the Volvo has been giving me hell since...forever.

I'm looking to get a 2000-2002 year car with some serious RELIABILITY. I guess I want what everyone else here would want out of a car, decent power, nice interior, and not too maintenance savy.

WAS looking into getting a Nissan Altima 3.5v6, but every person I've talked to about one either has a transmission problem, or their engine got blown.

Have any of you guys had any experience or know people or know anything about the Acura 3.2TL Type-S. That's next on my list and I've always thought they are such beautiful cars. I'm seriously considering one and just would like some feed back or input from you guys. Everytime I look at online reviews for a car all I see is praise, but in real life all people do is down their cars.

Also would like you guys opinons on:

BMW 330 328 or 325

Lexus IS300

Nissan Maxima

BMW 528

Mercedes C320

I'm not trying to eclipse $21,000 either

Only thing I have to throw up - you're talking about not having too much maintenance, I don't know if it's the down time or the money you are concerned about, but German cars aren't the way to go if you want your maintenance fees to be reasonable, you know?

If you are looking at Mercedes, I like the lines of the C280 much more than those of the C320. Of course if you want a nice C43 AMG you could always get this. The 2000 C280 gets a 9/10 for reliability from MSN Autos.

And you're young...I would stay away from the Maxima and the 3.2 TL Type S (not to mention that it is probably over your $21,000 said limit).

Now what's left: the IS, the MB, and BMW (coupe or sedan? the coupes are hot!)

I think they'll all be fun cars to drive, some a little bit more than others. The BMW and MB will probably give a little better ride than the IS. Also, personally, I did not care for how low you sit in the IS when I looked at them last year.

My vote is for the MB C280 or C43AMG...or the BMW coupe if you are looking at coupes too. If you want something that not too many people have, the C43AMG would be nice.

I think these last 3 are all pretty good choices when it comes to reliability. All seem to have pretty good overall consumer ratings. It's a matter of what car appeals most to you. Good luck on the search!

Was it a reliable car? I actually think that'd be kinda pimp for me to have one, haha. That or the 3.2TL Type S. I'm tryna stray away from black wagons and get into black sedans. From other sites it seems like the TL's blow trannies like crazy.

It is not a pimp.. it is not very fast but relieable car. it is toyota thats why. I dont like TL, i would buy tsx

Thanks.

What does being young have to do with me staying away from the Maxima and the TL? And I want sedan, no coupes. I'd loooove a 330ci, but that's a little too much.

I see I see...

Yeah, I'm not really likin' the Maxima, but the TL Type-S just looks...sexy to me, I think the rims make the car.

And about the IS300, it's not too much but it's not too little. Anything that's pretty much on par with my 850 Turbo's acceleration is good enough for me. A lot of the cars I'm listing would be a very welcome improvement, but I don't really need speed.

I'm only 5'8 150, so I don't mind small cars too much.

Well, Noah, I had a friend at school that had just bought a TL type-S, sweet car, the interior is sooo comfortable and super plush. He had navigation too which I liked, but in the speed department it was only just as fast as my stock 98 s70 T5. We went from a red light at a left hand turn out of my school and I was behind him to start, by the end we were dead nuts even with me starting to pull on him at 80 mph.

So there's my experience with the TL, very nice car out the box, performance, ergonomics, luxury and reliability oriented; not to mention it'll catch a IS300 with it's pants down :monkey:

You know Jags have pretty low resale if your looking for pimp factor, I mean girls in my High School had frickin Benz's. HTH Good luck :)

I have an '03 TL S-type as a daily driver. It's reliable (although I got a transmission recall notice in the mail) and gets great gas mileage. Comparing it to a Volvo or BMW though, it's not as comfortable, it doesn't handle as well, it doesn't feel as good to drive... Just not a 'fun' car. Maintenance is CHEAP too. Oil changes for $30 at the dealer.

Acura TL Type-S = Wrong wheel drive! Same with the Altima.

Why not the last-gen 540i with sport package? It should be in the neighborhood of your price limit, it looks fantastic, the power is wonderful, and it's a beautiful car. :)

How was that 850 RWD conversion? :D
