Hi - Newbie here.

First off I've had the S70 for 8 years now and love it. Got with 20K miles. Pulling intowork this AM just spun the dial to 300K. You I drive a lot but love this car. OK so I'having the same issue as otheres and would like to try the bread tie fix but can't seen to find any pictures for reference. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark Olenick

The thread you're looking for is this one. But just because you're losing AC doesn't mean the clutch is failing, could be the evaporator has a leak. What are your specific symptoms? Also, here's another thread on Matthew's Volvo Site that examines various issues with the AC.

+1 to it's cycling because there's a leak. But, if you choose to fix the clutch gap on the compressor, don't use bread clips. Go to the hardware store and do it right and get alligator C clips. I think they're the 3/8" ones.

Hi - I had the Volvo to my mechanic and he said it had a full charge. Well added 1/2 lb but that's not much considering it's never been recharged since I've owned it. The other reason I don't think it's a leak is because one day while the car was in a shaded spot with the hood open I ran the AC for quite a while and it stayed engaged blowing 50 air.

Thanks for all the help

Mark

I am not familiar with alligator C clips. Do tell.. I have to do this fix soon. I have been trying to decide what to use as a shim. I think that the bread clips will be too thick for my car, 00 V70.

I used bread clips, but I'm ghetto.  Still working fine after a year.  They are a pain to get in there though.  I think I took a piece of long 5/16" steel rod, made a notch in the end with a hacksaw, which held the bread clips on the end of the rod and allowed me to put them under the clutch plate.

Bread clips do work on a 2000 PERFECTLY.

They're a bit hard to get in there, use a long thin screwdriver, then when they're in position, break off the ends.
