I am taking my car to a paint shop tomorrow.

The hood, roof, and rear trunk will be painted.

Do I need to wash the car before I take it to a shop? or the shop will take care of the dirt and other nasty stuff on my car before painting it?

Thanks.

I would ask the shop, if they're reputable then they will prep the surfaces and not just spray paint on top of the existing paint and clear... They should do something about it, but it wouldn't hurt to clean it off to be nice to them.

Going by your name and that your getting the whole top side of the car painted I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess your car is black.

The clear on the top side of my R has cancer :( it had a few bubbles when I got it and since then has turned to total shit. The hood and trunk aren't too bad but the roof is a major eyesore.

I was thinking of painting just the topside but the sides have enough little flaws to make me want to wait for a full respray.

Yes, it's black.

Other parts of the car is ok condition. Hood, roof, and rear trunk are in terrible condition.

I will post before and after pictures here :)

If it turns out good, I will recommend the shop for you guys.

Wish me luck!

Yeah, they will take care of all.

Thank you for the reply.

Ok, I just picked up my car, but the paint job hasn't completed.

They need to sand the paint off so it will shine like it should.

Right now it kind of looks blury on the surface.

How long does it take 2 professional guys to finish the sanding? Just for the hood, roof, and rear trunk. I think it should take no more than 2 hours?

I am going to take my car to the shop again this week.

I also realized that the brake bulb warning light is on when I step on the brake.

I think they took out the rear spoiler to paint the trunk, but somehow they installed it wrong? left a connector unplugged?

Does anyone know where to look for a plug or anything for the spoiler?

Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about how long it takes. Drop the car off and let them do it. Surprised they let you take the car before it was complete.

I left my car last Friday morning. They said it would be done Saturday. I called them and they said it would be ready on Monday morning, which is today.

I went to pick it up, and they were installing the Volvo and 850R badges. I left the car for 3 days, and they haven't finished it yet.

I also found out that they have been driving my car aboout 100 miles during the 3 days. I checked the mileage before I left my car there.

I am a bit pissed off, because the paint job isn't finished yet, and they drove my car during weekends.

I am not going to leave my car there again, but I will take my car to the shop and let them finish it this week.

That's the reason I asked how long it will take to do the sanding job.

Oh, by the way, the front window rubber trim is falling off because they rushed to install it.

They forgot to connect something on the spoiler so I get this wanring light.

They drove my car around 100 miles(highway miles) because the trip computer is showing that average mileage is 23mpg.

I only get 18mpg from my house to work, and I get 23mpg if I drive only in highway.

I didn't say anything to them because nothing is going to be changed.

I just want them to finish the job while I am right nextt to them.

how much did you pay for this paint job? did you go to sketchy-paint-R-us?

Yeah, that's the thing. It was cheap, but they did good job a year ago with my saab.

They just moved and reopened the shop.

Anyway, I will never go back to the place again, but I have to, one more time to get the paint completed.

take pictures of EVERYTHING before, i have had such bad luck with auto body shops

You mean before I take it to the shop again?

It looks like they messed up the rear spoiler brake light. I am trying to figure it out right now.

I see a yellow clip that is disconnected, but I can't find where it goes...

Ok, I found out that they just cut the wire that connected to the yellow clip.

I will take my car to the shop on Friday, and they said they will finish the job and the brake light.

They asked me to leave the car on Friday and pick it up Saturday. I said I will stand right next to my car while they work on it.

They said that black color is kind of hard to sand off so it will take time.

Is this true? No matter what, I ain't drop off my car to them, but I just want to know whether it's true or not.

If they sprayed 2 stage paint, then that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Well, this is their story.

I emailed pictures of my car to them.

They emailed me back with the price of painting. We agreed to do this job so I made an appointment for Friday morning, which was last Friday.

I took my car to the shop on Friday morning, they said it will be done next day. Anyway, they said that the car won't be ready till Monday night so I said that I will pick up the car Tuesday morning, which is today.

I went to pick it up, and one of the guys was installing the badges, and told me that the condition of the hood was a lot worse than they thought, so they had to do 4 to 5 stages of painting...I don't know whether this is true or not.

Anyway, and they said that it need to be settled for a week to sand off. They asked me to come back a week later.

This is their story. Maybe it's true, but I don't like what they did to my car.

I just don't trust them anymore.
