ohsleeper
where did you run your wires? is over the top of the steering column ok? seems like a bad idea to me. is there a better route?
Zappo
Install the switch to the right of the steering column. Problem solved. The switches from the factory plug into the stock radio harness. No need to "wire it in". Everyone that is selling switches seems to hack the wires off short instead of taking the time to get the whole thing with the plugs. Easier on their end, tougher on the buyer when trying to install.
Dave 54
yup I put the switch in the slot closest to the radio, only needed about 3 feet of wire total.
ohsleeper
i decided to go under the steering column. it worked real well i wrapped the wire loom although that was probably unnecessary. i bought just the switch. no pigtails no harness. the harness is way to expensive and quick connectors fit perfectly on the prongs. wiring is pretty simple too. pulling out the soldering iron is always fun
Dave 54
Nice glad you got it in. I love soldering, it's so much cleaner looking of an install then using splice connectors.
Burn-E
i decided to go under the steering column. it worked real well i wrapped the wire loom although that was probably unnecessary. i bought just the switch. no pigtails no harness. the harness is way to expensive and quick connectors fit perfectly on the prongs. wiring is pretty simple too. pulling out the soldering iron is always fun ^This is what I did since the right hand switch bank was full on my car and I didn't want to go through the hassle of moving switches. Seemed the wiser course given the risks of tangling in the column if running from above.
Chef JPD
I installed the switch on the left hand side and ran the wires under the column. I tilted the wheel to it's lowest point, and ran the wires between the foam and the panel. No risk of entanglement and clean install.
ohsleeper
yeah same boat as you guys. i feel like i should redo the install and take pictures to have as a diy...i'm a former vortex guy and its really incredibly nice to have a write up and an answer on everything when you are a noob...and there doesnt seem to be a lot in the volvo community. (much smaller obviously)
Oreo931
I still haven't figured out how to wire mine in and I've had the switch in there for like 1.5 years now

I'll bring my solder iron just in case.

I don't think I'll have time. I am so swamped with work it's not even funny. I'm in the middle of this writing competition and it's not over until Monday :(

You can use splice connectors, I just prefer the cleaner install of soldering.
