f1fanoly
From what i've heard my '97 855 glt a/t has motronic 4.4,all other 850's use 4.3.'98 x70's run motronic 4.4.From what I understand. You all say if I put '98 ecu in my '97 it will fry the a/c.What i'm doing is replacing old motor(bent valves) with a '98 T5 engine.Already have everything and in the middle of the swap.Question is,why cant I run '98 T5 ecu in my already equipped 4.4 car?I talked to IPD about having my '97 ecu tuned for '98 T5 and there answers were reallv vague and not very confidence inspiring. Is the fried a/c issue between the year of the car or 4.3 vs 4.4?Or is this a mystery question no ones going to be able to answer? 9883
I'm still not 100% sure if 97GLT is 4.4 or 4.3. I have seen two documents published by Volvo which are contradicting and the 97 T5 is a 4.3.

f1fanoly
Hanse manual states that 97 is 4.3 Motronic. (my 97 T5 is 4.3) I've been told on here the '97 GLT is 4.4 and thats why I cant use a '97 T5 or R ecu because they're 4.3.Thats why I was wondering about the '98 T5,if its 4.4 and my '97 GLT is 4.4,can I use a '98 T5 ecu with my new motor for max benefit of the bigger turbo and injectors? Jaxx
98 was 4.4. better be sure about both though before you fuck up your ac controls
f1fanoly
98 was 4.4. better be sure about both though before you monkey up your ac controls If my '97 is in fact 4.3 and not 4.4,I should be able to swap a '97 T5 or R ecu in with no problem, passed on a R ecu for $100 when I bought my engine because I was told my glt was 4.4.Is there any way to find out for sure?If I called the dealer, would they be able to tell me? f1fanoly
SAS=4.4 Ok,so I have SAS,that means 4.4?Can I run '98 T5 ecu then?
Matt01
WOW.. i am looking for this exact answer too.. the way i understand it is.. any b5254T engine from 97 has 4.4. such as the GLT's and the AWD.. once i can figure out a way to remove that metal strap around the ECU box, ill confirm it. I think the "strap around the ecu box" is the locking lever itself, lift up on it and it rotates up and the ecu lifts out.Is that going to tell you anything though? Are you investigating the possibilities of a '98 ecu also? How will the ECU confirm this for you? They don't say 4.4 or 4.3 on them if that is what you are hoping for. The bottom line to all this confuison is that I doubt anyone has done this swap to a 97 GLT. They may have done 98's but both the T5 and GLT are 4.4 for that year. I would say just do the motor swap and not worry about a HPT ECU right now. Or get a 4.3 HPT ECU since we all know that it won't fry the A/C in a 97 and see what happens. Mesoam
96/7 N/A's had SAS, wasn't 4.4 I would vote your 97 is a 4.3, most likely 4.4 euro spec being their model years are out a year ahead of ours (hence 1992 850's there) SAS=4.

I've not seen that strap on any other 850,kinda wierd.Maybe you can call your dealer and see what they can tell you.If not 4.4,then why not a '97 R ecu, theyre available.
