Matt854T5
Just put in A new radiator. Let it idle for ten min and water would intermittently back up into the reservoir and was boiling then it would go away and was fine and it keeps doing this and engine temp stayed normal. Any ideas? sticky thermostat? I suspected possible head gasket did compression check and got 130 across the board on all cylinders.
cgally
Did you flush radiator before install? Symptons sound like T-stat.
Matt854T5
No I didn't. you still think it would be thermostat even though it didn't overheat?
cgally
Possibly, there could be some debris in the rad. Try flushing the system. I'm assuming that your cooling fan cycled on and off while you idled the car for 10 mins. As for T stats. How old is it? Personally, I replaced mine as part of stage zero. 87volvo740t
There is still air in the system, the way i do it is, fill with about 2lts of water/ coolant mix, run the car with the heater on and the cap off, and slowly add water to the max mark, stop adding water when i reaches the max mark and stays there. you will notice the water slowly climbing to the top of the bottle as the car runs, once it is about 1cm below coming out switch the car off, and it should fall and possibly empty the tank, just refill, and repeat till there is no more fuild drop, and you system will be bleed. Hope this helps, 850's are real pita to bleed properly, but i found this technique to work best.
