harleyhv
I'm aware that the ETM - Electronic Throttle Module subject has been beaten to death so please accept my apologies I did a search on VS and could not really find what I was looking for... Situation Got a 2001 V70 2.4T that has an irregular iddle RPM.... goes from 750 to 1000 and sometimes wants to stall and so on... My car has the "famous magneti marinelli" known as POS unit and has received the ETM software update a while back... Mudstrap on CVQ (Club Volvo quebec) has found a good DIY guide for the ETM clean-up procedure: http://www.scribd.co...-hard-to-remove It is suggested to reset the ETM (ie unplug the battery and the ETM) prior to clean it because the author is under the impression that "So you might consider doing this (resetting the ETM) before attempting to clean the ETM. My assessment is the oil film removal from throttle body + butterfly won't do anything.".... see pic attached. for unplugging ETM. Some questions: * Is it worth a try or a waiste of time? * Unplugging th battery before unplugging ETM.... is it necessary? * If one unplug the battery first... what's the use of unplugging the ETM? * what would be the impact of unplugging the ETM only...? some sort of a "permanent code" that needs to be reset at the dealership (like fiddling around with the AC unit without the battery unplugged...been there, bought the Tshirt...) Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks!
Ihatespeedbumps
resetting is a waste of time. Sounds like it needs cleaned. Have you looked through the ETM thread stickied at the top of this forum?
Dan A
Just take it in, you should be covered under the extended warranty, no?
rj240
That's right...you should be covered under the Extended warranty of 10 years or 200 000miles...
JRL
Waste of time Clean it first, and if that doesn't help, time for a new ETM!
harleyhv
Ihatespeedbumps => yup that what I thought.... and I read the stickied thread (mostly page 7 dated in sept. 2009) Dan A, RJ => Hopefully it should be covered in Canada.... 2001 V70 with 192,000 KMS... RJ => I guess I'll see you in the near future at Pointe-Claire Volvo.... I still need that "9200217" since I was able to get the IPD HD links with the credit that I had there already... still have it in stock? For the ETM... I guess I'll have to have it scanned to make sure that it is indeed the ETM (most likely)... We can discuss the options when I'll pickup the part. I checked and your car is eligible for the ETM extended warranty, and you are within the time and mileage limits... To be honest with you I'm not entirely clear on the exact claims procedure...it is a service thing, but I do know that Volvo requires a whole slew of paperwork when sending back the old ETM when we do a warranty claim... And yes, I still have that 9200217 in stock...I'll reserve it for you...
