mulcy
Hi All, I'm having some trouble with my 98T5M after an engine swap. The engine cranks and builds oil pressure. Fuel pressure is also good but it won't start. My best guess is that it has something to do with the ignition system. Is it possible to misalign the distributor rotor? I changed the rear intake cam seal on the new motor and had to remove the plate that the distributor rotor mounts to (in order to get to the seal). The plate is only held on by one bolt and I didn't see any markings to help align it with the intake cam. Does the alignment not matter? If it does matter how do I align it? Would appreciate any other suggestions on diagnosing the no start problem also. Thanks!

AverageVolvo
Lol, Stick an old spark plug in the wire and ground it and look for spark. You can even stick a screw driver in the wire plug And if ya don't have someone to crank while you look for spark, you can jump the starter. mulcy
alright, spark is good. Tested all 5 wires by putting a plug in them and watching them spark.
yangotang
did you connect your crank position sensor?
mulcy
Alright got her started. The distributor was misaligned after all. The plate that the rotor mounts to is supposed to have two prongs that fit into the slot in the intake cam. Mine were completely worn off for some reason (on the 'new' junkyard engine with 94k). I used the plate from the old engine, lined things up and it started right away. Lots of valve train noise and some smoke coming from back by the turbo... hopefully everything's ok. ABS and Tracs lights are also on but that should be fairly easy to diagnose.
