Oem Speaker Options For S70

I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my S70, and I've heard volvo made an optional speaker package (dynaudio?) that is pretty good? were these available for the s70, or only for the c70? and were they stock for the c70s or an upgrade?

does anyone have any experience with the dynaudio package and know where I can find it?

thanks

I've got a set of the Dynaudio C70 parcel shelf speakers. I had them installed in my S70, but went back to stock, if you want them.

And yes there is a Dynaudio package that was available for the S70, it's a roughly $1500 kit iirc....

Just to add to this, the full Dynaudio package includes 9 speakers which covers all of your eight standard (shelf, back and front doors, dash Left and right) plus a center dash speaker. You don't have to add the center speaker but having run the system with and without the center, the sound greatly improves with it. For me in the C70, the center speaker added clarity to the sound and focused it up front in the cabin. To take full advantage of the speakers though, you should consider upgrading your head unit to the SC-901 which also requires a 4x50W amp. If you want the full details plus part numbers, Jim Rothe's documentation is comprehensive on this.

People have said you cannot get these new from the dealer any more - and the total cost would be ~$1800 - but people are parting out these systems from time to time on VS and Swedespeed. So keep your eyes out if you really want a set.

The benefit with the Dynaudio is that they come with all of the brackets and fit the OEM. Anything else and you typically have to rework the brackets, cut holes, etc. But Ghostshadow does stereo installs for a living so he could potentially point you in the right direction for good upgrades that wouldn't require to much retrofitting.

i have an sc-900 head unit and I just bought a 4x50 watt amp, and am currently looking for the center speaker and dolby processor. are all the center speakers dynaudio speakers?

so i read Jim Rothe's article, and don't have $1800 to spend on new speakers, but wouldn't mind getting them used.

Are the speakers that come in all the C70s the dynaudio speakers, or do only some of them have it? and are there enough speakers/correct sizes from the c70 to replace all the speakers in my s70?

The short answer to your question is no, you can't replace everything in your S70 from a C70. The parcel shelf units are interchangeable, and so are the tweeters. The rest is not usable for you. I took out the C70 parcel shelf speakers because I found them to be to bassy (is that a word?) for my tastes.

You will not be able to find any of the S70 Dynaudio speakers used. I found a complete kit on a Swedish site for another member on here two years ago, and it was $1300, which was a real steal. The only way to get them will be to find a new set.

Also, ditch the SC-900. Find an SC-901, it has the defeatable equalizer curves as well as presets for the S70 that really allow you to maximize the setup's potential.

After swapping components around (I had a 900, got rid of it, and had a 4x40W 850R amp that I also got rid of), I've settled on the following setup. It won't blow the doors off, and others on here have much better setups using non-OEM components. But, for my purposes, it sounds great. It's clean and not an overpowering experience.

SC-901 HU + Dolby center channel amp

4x50W V70R amplifier

New dashboard w/center speaker from a C70

C70 Dynaudio Tweeters

Alpine Type S 6.5" in the front doors

Stock Rear Deck speakers

Hope that helps.

what are defeatable equalizer curves? the sc-901 has this and the sc-900 doesn't? i got an sc-900 because I have IPD's ipod adapter (which doesn't work with the sc-901). are there other options for an ipod interface with the sc-901?

Regardless of what IPD says, the Ipod adaper does indeed work with the 901.

It is a USA-SPEC unit made for honda and using a "volvo" wiring harness.

works like a charm on my 2002 C70 with SC-901 dynaudio.

and anyway, according to the IPD website, it won't work with a 900 or 901.

i'm glad to hear that the iPod adapter works with your sc-901, because I'm having some problems with it at the moment with my sc-900.

My previous set up was an 850 4x40 watt amp and sc-900, and the IPD iPod adapter worked great.

Just yesterday I installed a 4x50 watt amp (from a V70R that goes under the passenger seat), the dolby processor, and the center speaker. Now when I hook up my iPod to the adapter, the headunit still controls the iPod, but I get no sound when it is playing. I unplugged the dolby processor and the center speaker to see if it could be some sort of interference from those, but the same thing - ipod control with no sound. So I have to imagine that hooking up the amp made this not work? can anyone help? I have an SC-901 on the way, hoping that makes any difference....

If all the other sources work, then the amp and Dolby are fine.

If they were an issue, you'd be quiet with all the inputs.

There's probably something funky with your adapter or the cables.

Also, be sure you have good power in all the right places for that adapter.
