damitzmike
I installed an ipd intake mani spacer and drove about 80miles perfectly fine when my car started dieing on me. The rpm gauge would drop and the car would spudder out. I noticed that the idle air control motor's rubber holder was loose so I fixed that. About half mile down the road again I hit a small bump and the car shut off again. Checked the under the hood and same problem this time I put the rubber back around it and zip tide it nice and tight. About 2-3 miles again the car dies. At this point im getting sick of getting in and out of the car so I try to restart it without messing with anything and it started up and I got to my destination. On the way home that night I had the same problem about every 1/2 mile (10 times or so) till I was able to get the car home. Next morning I went to get in the car it started up fine. I drove about 40 miles with stops in between with no problem what so ever. As im exiting the freeway the car starts to die on me again and I coast into a parking lot... here is where the fun begins. While trying to diagnose the car I realized the car has no spark at the plugs or at the coil. There is still power going to the coil but no spark. At this point I think the coil, the cam pos sensor or the crank sensor could be faulty. I went back and put on a different working msd coil and a working cam sensor... still no luck. So I went and bought a new Crank (rpm) sensor installed and no luck either. A buddy of mine tested the connector that the cam sensor plugs into that feeds to the ecu and the voltage was very low i think around 2V . The only thing I could try was swapping out the ECU so I did that and still will not turn on. If anyone has any ideas please lmk.
HtownTurboBrick
probably not your problem mike, but throw a fuel pump relay at it, or do a bypass test and see if it helps.

HtownTurboBrick
would the FPR cause it not to have spark? do you know where to get a diagram of the relays? I'm in oregon, I have the link for doing the bypass on my machine at home. I'd tell you to search, but I don't think the archived threads come up in search. But it's the red 107 relay underneath the fuse box cover. Loosen the 4 torx screws on fuse cover, not just the flip up cover, but remove the entire top to get the relays. And no the relay will not cause it to not spark, but your symptoms sound a lot like what the car will do when the relay is on it's way out. Ask me how I know
bergmjs
would the FPR cause it not to have spark? do you know where to get a diagram of the relays? A bad fuel pump relay won't even let you crank usually. I know when my relay died I would turn the key and nothing would happen at all besides the radio cycling. bergmjs
HUH? Yea, I don't know why, but after the car was warm if I shut it off it would not crank or do anything if I tried to start it again. That is the main symptom of a bad fuel pump relay. I replaced the relay and now it starts up fine every time has for months. As for the bypass, after you pull the red relay 107, jumper the slot closest to the front of the car to the slot closest to the rear. I think the pin numbers are like 87 and 15 or something, but I don't really remember the numbers, just the positions.
damitzmike
what exactly do I need to do here to bypass? what exactly do I need to buy?
bergmjs
what exactly do I need to do here to bypass? what exactly do I need to buy? A paperclip. Just jumper the pins and see if it runs. Try to avoid driving with just the paperclip in place and get the new relay asap; if that's what fixes the problem.
HtownTurboBrick
Lol call my brother, vyken, juan or head up to aaron's and pull the relay off one of my cars up there and swap it in. takes 1 minute to do. Found the bypass link, gave it to someone in another thread a few weeks ago. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php/topic/92980-fuel-pump-relay-question-can-it-be-bypassed/page__p__1224565__fromsearch__1&#entry1224565 But yea, easiest way is to get a working relay, hell juan may have a few extra, we try to grab them when we got to pick and pull cuz they tend to fail. It would crank since it had spark, but wouldn't start due to the lack of fuel. please close What was the problem?

Bad relay won't let it do anything when you try to turn the car on, the lights just flicker a little.
