Kit Vexed Posted July 18, 2010 Report Share Posted July 18, 2010 hey ya'll i was looking on eEuroparts.com for a new MAF sensor in the 'electrical' category and came across the knock sensor 'update' kit?? it's genuine volvo, so it leads me to believe there may be problems with the original knock sensor set-up @ some point?? why else would volvo make it? Anybody ever do this update or have problems with the old style set-up? i also wanted to kill 2 birds since i recently purchased the iPd phenolic intake spacer and i'd have the intake off anyways? thanks guys! TorqueSteer Posted July 18, 2010 Report Share Posted July 18, 2010 Nothing is necessarily wrong with the old setup as far as I know. If you are not throwing a code for them, then they are fine. I registered a code for the knock sensors and noticed drive ability issues. I replaced all the sensors and installed the updated wiring. I do not see the need for the update unless necessary. ozzimark Posted July 18, 2010 Report Share Posted July 18, 2010 I'm not aware of any changes/upgrades to the knock sensors... if it's even possible. Any changes would really be done on the ECU side. If you suspect your knock sensors to be broken/tired/whatever, and it gives you peace of mind to replace em, go for it. Dave 54 Posted July 18, 2010 Report Share Posted July 18, 2010 Not sure if it's necessary. My old 94 had the old style which went bad right as I drove off the dealers lot. So he said i'll take care of it, and he did, he got the original harness and not the updated version cause it cost more and appparently the not all of the old harnesses are bad, just hit or miss kiind of. But guess what, within' 1k it threw a cel for the same thing. So I bought the updated harness and installed it myself and never had a problem after. If it were me personally leave what you have in unless your having issues, and if you are get the updated harness don't skimp out with the original harness if they are still available. Kit Vexed Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Share Posted July 19, 2010 im not throwing a code or having any problems with my knock sensors; i basically just figured since im taking off the intake mani for the phenolic spacer upgrade and it's such a pain in the butt to do the work, i may as well do it since i've got 106K on the car and i'd be pissed if the knock sensors went @ like 110K or something.. taking off the intake stinks! i just did the pcv kit and never want to do it again if i dont have to (but i did have to AFTER i'd ordered the spacer! haha) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
