NateB
It has been a while since I've posted - but I was fairly active when I had an 850 Turbo. I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Volvo V70/se wagon (non turbo) for my son's first car. The car is in great shape - I test drove it the other day and the engine and transmission are smooth. I had the car up on a lift and all appears in very good shape underneath. The car is being sold by my Volvo mechanic shop manager for a customer - I know the shop and manager and they are first rate. So everything looks like a "go" - the mileage on the odometer is 218,000 miles which worries me a bit but the price seems fair. I am told these cars can run many 100's miles if well maintained. The shop printed out the maintenance records and maintenance was a priority - oil and filter changed frequently. Anyone have thoughts concerning this model or the odometer mileage - can I get 300-350 K miles out of this car? Do these models have the same issues as the older 850's as far as AC evaporators going bad ( if so- are they less expensive to get to?). Appreciate any constructive feedback- Thanks ! You will want to check the following in the service records at that mileage: Valve stem seals A/C evaporator A/C compressor Timing belt history The car is very similar to the 850, and the evaporator takes just as much to replace as it does in the 850. You can easily get 300k if the car has been well taken car of. Be warned that 2000 N/A motors had the first 5spd auto trans, and they had some issues. Failures in the N/A motors are relatively low, but still be wary.

The Transmission during test drive worked flawlessly and the engine was smooth and no oil leak seapage visible from below or from top. I anticipate with the oem evaporator still in place that it will be lucky to go 12 months ( same with ac compressor)- but you never can tell. The T-Belt /IdlerPulley/ T-Belt Tensioner all recently replaced Also within past 6 months: 1) New Battery 2) Heater Core replaced 3) All coil packs and tune up I can purchase the car for about $2,300 which seems like a reasonable price even taking on a few repair risks. jda2000
$2300 for a 2000 V70 with all that service work done already, is a really great price. If the drive train is sound, go for it and don't sweat the AC evaporator, fix it it when it breaks.
