harleyhv
Spent a couple of hours over the weekend painting the grille with black plasti-dip spray. I left the chrome on the outside frame... as a touch of "old volvo classic"..... I have to figure out where to put those horns.... and replace the "Volvo" emblem that looks somewhat beaten up

harleyhv
it is indeed an improvement... Plasti-dip works great. Just have to be carefull when peeling off the masking tape. The real test will be next winter.
Spanky
I wont last . The stuff works decent but I give it a a year to 18 months before you have to redo it.

TRACStar
I used krylon fusion flat black (made for plastics) didn't even scuff up the grill and it held up for 4 years and was on 2 different cars without a single chip. The main thing to remember whenever you use any kind of rattle can paint is to do multiple light coats until its covered. If you can't see through the paint after the first pass it'll flake/chip within 6 months.

volvotool
SEM Trim black works great, if you can find it. Does a good job on wiper arms, too.

Spanky
I guess I am the odd man out here. Have done my grille and my mirrors twice in a matter of 3 years. Each time was a clean surface with multiple coats. Maybe it has something to do with how dry the desert is .

bigdaddylee82
Man I put a lot of work in painting mine and just noticed a chip 2 weeks post paint, I'm a little ticked . I cleaned my grill throughly (put it in the dishwasher) Then sanded the entire thing, in between, every crevasse with 500 grit Next I was diligent cleaning with paint thinner and a lint free rag I then used a Rust-oleum plastic primer 2 coats Followed by 4 light coats of black Rust-oleum Hammered Finally 8 light coats of Rust-oleum clear It looked breast when finished and on the car, still looks good, other than a pea sized chip where chrome is showing again. I guess plastic primer on the chrome wasn't such a good idea. So Plasti Dip is the way to go huh? Are you guys clearing over it? I did the fender flares on my TJ with it several years ago, but they faded quite a bit in about a year. - Lee
harleyhv
Meosoam => Couple of hours considering the masking, 3 quick coats and drying time.... and a dring somewhere in there.... bigdaddylee82 => I cleaned it diligently but not as thoroughly as you did (sanding, primer & all) I'm not going to put a clear on top... from what I gathered from the different feedbacks on plasti-dip, this is quite sturdy. Time will tell I say.
