RX-8, not bad...they will never stack up to the late RX-7.

About a year ago, I saw one pull up next to a WRX down in Petersburg. Light turned and it was just sitting there spinnning its tires. Meanwhile, the WRX was no where to be seen. You start F|_|@&ing with a WRX, you know your with the big boys!

PEACE!

man I just keep going back and forth if I like the RX8 or not.

I think it varries by the week lol

your abs right. I have seen it at track also once and it handles VERY well. (Visually, i i didnt drive it tho.)

But sometomes i really think its ugly and the again esp in black I think its awesome. Especially the rear.

Its funny, but the same applies the 350ZX as well. (Tho im slightly feeling like its slowly losing it merits in me....)

WRXs are ok. Spanked a turboed 2.5RS (cooler than WRX) one day like a redheaded step child. He took me for the first 60 feet, but when I got traction I could barely make him out in my rearview mirror.

Of course I wasn't in my Volvo at the time. Think German car pushing 15+ psi on a 2.5L engine. :P

I'm with Doug on the RX8. I like the looks and it is kinda neat having the suicide doors, but the car is so SLOW for what it is. Not to mention it gets HORRIBLE gas mileage for how fast it is. It would be like getting an NA volvo that handled really well and gets a whopping 24 mpg on the highway. Now I could stomach the horrible gas mileage if it put up numbers and had the tunability of a 3rd Gen RX7. Then it would make an awesome car. As is it is so-so except in the looks department. Give me a Blue G35 coupe any day.

I think the RX-8s are beautiful, esp. from a side view. Seriously tho, where'd the turbo on that thing? They need one. C&D quoted a 15.2 or something of that sort, which is a perfect (corrected) time. A 2004 V6 Mustang would hold w/ that. Ouch.

there are two version available here in europe afaik. one has ~195 and the other ~230 bhp. Am i right?

so if that  one was the 195 version then its obvious you beat it.

As for the torque: Dont forget its a rotary engine (Wankel) which generates its power by reving like mad (up to 10k i heard?)

It just happens to be a very small displacement engine so there isn't much down low. You can pat yourselves on the back every time you blow away one of those 1.3l powerhouses.

I've driven a few. They handle pretty well. Very "tossable" feeling, very confidence inspiring, very stable. Also VERY slow. A friend of mine drives an S40 1.9t with just a chip and an opened up exhaust and he consistantly murders them. I mean badly. From 40mph roll he'll put 3-5 cars on them by 80. I don't even bother messing with them, don't have to be in the right gear to outrun them. If they dropped the MSRP by 5-8k, they'd be a good buy. They just don't have enough go to compete in the 28-32k price range. There is no comparison between them and an Evo or STi. Even the 350Z, which is more of a handling car than a straight line one would absolutely SMOKE the Rx8. Compare it to cars that are meant for straight line acceleration, and it falls even farther behind. 170-180whp does not match up against the LS2 powered GTO, or the new 'Stang GT.

The strength of that car is its handling. IMO, Mazda should rate it closer to actual HP (I'd say around 210-220), and lower the price to 20-25k. They'd sell a lot more of them.
