2000 V70Xc Awd: Scrapping-An-Clunking Noise While Driving

went out to look at the car.

Needs some engine mount, few lenses. idles well. no check engine light.

went to drive it around the block and while it drives there's this scrapping-and-clunking sound from the front (i'm sure it's the front). Also the tracs system light would flicker some when I'm hearing this noise. NO tracs system light in Drive and stopped, only when actually rolling.

I'm hoping it's the transfer case and/or cv-joints and not the transmission.

when transfer case or bever gear are bad what am i expected to hear?

Would anyone be willing to comment?

The noise could be lots of things, we need a better description. :) Also, which engine mount(s) need to be replaced?

hm... about the better description.

upper torque mount is fubared. front engine mount by the pass side front axle

Could be a few things but more then likely it is suspension related. Most of the time, you get this kind of clunking when your spring seats or swap bar endlinks are bad. It is tough to tell without seeing the car.

i did remove the driveshaft, as it seems to me it is a prelude to replacing the transfer case. The part to which the front of the driveshaft connects moves in-and-out and sideways in the transfer case. it is the part in the picture:

image of the part that moves like crazy, causing the noise, IMO

Sounds like you need a rear driveshaft CV joint, exactly what you pictured above. I just had the same issue on my 99' V70R. It was a constant clicking that picked up with speed and also gave terrible vibrations at 40mph and 60mph. Merging onto and off of the freeway was a struggle. The part was about $220 and labor was about $200.

The wagon is much more smooth and AWD has a bit more punch than before the noise.
