Ipd Stage L -Vs- Stage Lll

Sorry about the L's, they looked good when I was making this. Should read:

IPD Stage 1 -vs- Stage 3

So I am sporting a Stage1 IPD ECU. Of course you all know the cost of the ECU flashing, its quite an investment. I am very happy with the performance of the car on the Stage1 but I do want more. I want to really really really know if going to a Stage3 is going to be worth the money. What will it do for me? I have already talked to Lucky about getting it done but I have not put the second foot through the door. I am running 18psi on a 18T now. Would I expect any difference? I have White injectors sitting in the garage, should I put them in? Should I add water injection and the ECU? Help sort out the mud please.

I was told not to exceed 1.4bar and 13:1 AFR's on the iPD stage III tune.. I think probably the aggressive low rpm ignition timing and fuel delivery is the biggest difference I noticed between Stage I and 3, making the car feel mega torquey in the low end. A lot of fun for city driving but at the same time I also suffered a 2L/100km fuel economy drop..

You're running an 18T at 18psi with an IPD stage 1 ECU?

What boost pressure does the stage 3 tune run and whats the price? If it's anything close to what i'm thinking, you're probably better off saving your money.

Yes I am, MBC. I believe the boost pressure of an IPD Stage3 is 18psi. I just dont know if going to the Stage3 will give me any more output.

Throw in a couple of extra Frankies and get TT. Don't get me wrong, I love my IPD stage 1. It has been reliable and solid but with the constant state of change this car seems to be in, with TT you can modify on the run to accommodate changes.

As I've stated before, on a dynapack dyno, with the Stage 1 my car made 286whp. With the Stage 3 the car now is 307whp and my quarter time is 13.77. Stage 1 quarter was 14.07. And yes the Stage 3 is set for 18psi. I am totally happy with the Stage 3 performance, worth my investment!

It will probably make a bit more power, but is it worth it? To me no since I am not the original purchaser of my stage 1 tune. Stage 3 would cost me full price and that is not worth it IMO.

I've never dynoed but I ran a 13.9@100 with my current setup minus the angled flange and R mani. After swapping I ran 13.7@103 on the auto.

With these cars once you start making some real power your best bet at this point in time would have to be TT. Anything else for the most part is just going to be an off the shelf tune that isn't necessarily setup for YOUR car.

What is the price difference between upgrade from 1 to 3 vs buying 3 outright... 3 is like 895ish

Since I'm the original owner of my car and did the Stage 1,it cost me $350 for the 3 upgrade.

I'm in the same boat....350 is not bad to upgrade.

I still think I am going the TT route instead though...got core ecu shipped to me yesterday compliments of Dublin cool.gif

the orginal III tune was done for kevin's car.

""supposedly"" its been twicked but W/E.

there have been some mystery engines blow running this tune. Nothing conclusive has been determined to why. This tune was written for a car running aquamist. All the cars that blew weren't running it.

IMO IMO IMO IMO. i wouldn't run that tune without it if you plan on pushing the car.. IMO IMO IMO. there's a couple others here who agree with my deduction. Its only my opinion, IPD, MTE is a fine company.
