aggarcia
Time to replace the tires on my 97 850R. The suspension is stock, but I will replace the struts and springs in Sept. I have a set of Maxxim Grips 18x8, 40 mm offset. Currently it has 215/40/18 - this size is the proper size for a plus one conversion. Speedometer would be correct, there is no rubbing and the overall diameter is the same as stock. The other option is 225/40/18. This size opens up a lot more selection of tires and in many cases they are cheaper than the 215/40 size. The down side is the speedometer would be slight off and possible rubbing issues. Any thoughts on this topic? Thanks for voting.
TRACStar
I doubt the 225's will fit especially after lowering.
ozzimark
Agreed. 215 at the most, and you may still rub at full lock unless you use spacers and maybe roll the fenders.
(n)A-GAME
225/40/18 will rub for sure (they do on my lowered S70, which has a larger wheel well than your 850), but if you can get them cheap you'll live with it. I'd go with 215/40s myself.
Zappo
I run 225/40/18 on my car. Rubbing is front and back, not on the inside. I wouldn't have any rubbing issues if I was running 35s instead of the 40s.
aggarcia
Thanks for all your input. I was able to get the price down on the 215/40/18 Hankook's to $111 a tire at the local Discount Tire. They should be at the local store by Tuesday at latest. The 225/40 is more readily available, but I really do not want to deal with the rubbing issues. The 215/40 on there now do not rub under normal driving. Volvowith18psi
225/40/18's the previous owner of my yellow had on the car rubbed so bad it took down to bare metal on the inside, and is about 1/32th from the front spoiler fender well connection, it would have worn the rivets off if there were any in atm... Ill post pics if you want : ) If you want 225, have to run a 35 wall imo
