Non-volvo, But Still Audio.

So my friend just got a new Pioneer head unit for her 1997 Toyota Tercel. I already picked up the wiring harness and some crimp thingies, but I was wondering if there's anything special related to getting the stock HU out. Do I need those liitle pin things that you put in the square holes and pull, or is it some type of panel I remove and then unscrew it? I haven't had a chance to look at it, and won't until I go to do the install on the 23rd so I'm looking for any advance knowledge I can get. I hate surprises when I'm installing things.

Does it have holes in the front for a removal tool?

Most Asian cars require removal of the stereo trim piece to remove the stereo. Once the trim piece is removed there are 4 screws that hold the HU in place. Remove those, pull the HU out.

Usually there are plates that screw to the factory HU. Remove those and attach them to the new HU. Then reinstall in reverse. After hooking up all the wires of course.

Then again, I could be wrong. It has been a while since I worked on a Japanese car, and things may have changed. If there are not 4 holes in the front (two on each side) Then chances are you will have to remove the dash trim.

stuff, my friend has a 97 Tercel I swapped the headunit in, but I can't remember, I can ask him though, and get back to you. I'm pretty sure there was nothing special about it, 95% positive.

Is hers a manual? His is, and even with <100HP, he can lay one hell of a patch, haha.
