Checking Intercooler Hose Question

Hi,

I am going to check all the intercooler hoses tomorrow, but I have questions before I do this.

I tried to find diagram of intercooler hoses, and All I found was hoses that connected to radiator.

I think I can able to check all the hoses without the diagram, but just to make sure....do I have to lift the front and check hoses?

Somebody said that if those rubber hoses are soft, even there is no crack, I need to replace them....is this correct?

Do I touch the rubber hose when car is idling?

Also, I remember seeing some rubber hoses when I was replacing pcv system. Are they intercooler hoses too?

Thanks.

here is a diagram of all rubber turbo hoses: http://www.ipdusa.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=3312&strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=1

if they are soft and mushy, replace them they probably have collapsed, should be pretty firm to be in good condition.

Thank you for the link!!!

By the way, have you done seafoam on 850?? The reason I am going to check hoses, I did seafoam, and while vacuum sucks the liquid, I saw white smoke came out from the engine bay.

Since I was holding the bottle and vacuum hose, I didn't stop and look....

I don't know whether it's normal or not. I think it's not normal....

Lets be sure you know how to perform the procedure first.

Warm up the engine at idle.

Introduce seafoam through a bona-fide vacuum source into the intake.

Shut engine off and let sit for 15 minutes.

Restart engine and let idle for 30 minutes.

(Tailpipe should smoke profusely)

After 30 minutes take for spirited drive.

Yes, that's what I did.

While I was putting the seafoam through the intake vacuum hose, white smoke(engine was hot) was coming out from the engine bay.

I just want to make sure whehter it's normal or not.

Seriously???

So you put Seafoam inside your engine and burn it...

Like any other exhaust, it should only come out the tailpipe...

if smoke comes out elsewhere and you didn't spill it...something is amiss...why would the engine smoke unless there is a leak???

Ya that makes sense, the seafoam should not be making smoke anywhere else in the engine bay...I know my car smokes from the turbo somewhere near the center band :S lol

Hum....so my car has a leak then.... Maybe I should seafoam again see where the smoke is coming out.

I took my car to a shop for smoke test, a mechanic didn't find any leak, and vacuum leak.

I also checked all the intercooler hoses, and 2 of them were really soft.....I guess I have to order hoses...well that is not a problem...the problem is the smoke....

By the way, I used the hose connected from intake pipe to intake manifold when I did seafoam. The one under power steering pump.

Which vacuum hose do you guys use when you seafoam?

Just using one of the lines coming off of the vac tree is your best bet.

When I seafoamed my car before a bit of smoke did seep from around the WG shaft.

How much smoke was there under the hood?? If it was a minimal amount I wouldn't worry, if it was pouring out........ well that's another story.
