Idea For Lower Doors

Right now I have these speakers in my front doors...the 5.25" in the stock location and the tweets in the dash. I am considering doing a 6.5" or 8" mid-bass speaker in the lower door location (where the pocket is now) in addition to the setup I already have. I was wondering if you have ever done/tried "completing" the pocket so that it is one big bulge in the door, and then flush mounting a 6.5" or 8" speaker there. Is this possible/recommended? I would rather have something like this instead of kicks.

I also have this Nakamichi PA-304 amplifier that I have not installed yet. It says it can be bridged for 4,3, or 2 channel operation. Would I be able to use this amp to power both the 8" speakers and the Eclipse components? How many channels would that be?

Here is what I am considering for speakers in the lower doors:

-6.5" Image Dynamics mid-bass drivers

-Boss 6" or 8" subwoofer

-one of these 8" MTX subs

-one of these 8" ID subs

-one of these 8" Polk subs

And for the record, I have no idea how to read/use impedance ratings...so I don't know which of these above speakers would work with my proposed setup. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

When you are using seperates everything attached to the crossover runs on one channel. So, even though you have a total of four speakers in the front (two mids and two tweets) they only use two channels because they are connected through the crossover.

Then you will use the other two channels in a bridge mode to power one Sub. Effectively you have three channels of amplification.

I would not put Subs in the front doors. If you want 6.5" up front the easiest way to do that is putting them in the stock location. It requires cutting of the door panel but can be done in less than 2 hours per door. The sound is not as good as using kicks or even replacing the door pockets, but saves alot of time and keeps a factory look.

As for a sub. Most of us have built custom boxes that either use the spare tire hole or fit on one side in the back of the trunk. Choices are either a 10" or 12". Anything smaller and you will not achieve good deep base. Anything larger, space becomes a factor and will not produce tight bass.

Do some searches and I think alot of your questions will be answered. I just posted this week about putting 6.5" in the front door panels and there are plenty of threads on subs.

Thanks for the reply Andrew. I saw the other threads about putting 6.5" in the stock location, also BenW's thread about installing 6.5s in the lower door section. The thing is, I do not want to replace my 5.25" Eclipse speakers (I just got them this summer, they sound great, and cost me $400 installed).

I want to keep my Eclipse speakers and add a 3rd speaker in each door (achieving a setup similar to the C70 - 8" woofer, 4" midrange, and dash-mount tweeter). My Eclipse speakers are great performers for what they are. I am just lacking in bass up front.

Since you suggest I don't put subs up front in the doors, the 6.5" ImageDynamics mid-bass drivers seem the best way to go then? Can I use my amp to drive the lower door speakers for just bass while at the same time driving the 2 sets of component speakers?

I plan on doing a setup for real sub/s in the trunk in the summer, but am just looking to upgrade the mid-bass being produced up front.
