NYrobbie77
Hi - this is my first post, but i've been lurking here for last few months since i bought a 1998 v70 GLT. its a fwd auto, leather heated seats front and back, no sunroof , 189k on it. i'm trying to get rid of the oil leaks, already replaced the oil cooler lines, what a pita. right now i have a fair amount of oil leaking out from the filler cap which is dripping back across the valve cover, down the side of the block and burning on the exhaust. is there just an o-ring on the cap that i can replace, or is it more likely the pcv hose plugged as i've read is a common problem? i don't see any other engine seals leaking, like rear main, valve cover, oil pan etc so i'm hoping its not that pcv hose. when running i pulled the dipstick too look for the smoking chimney, there is a slight amount of smoke that comes out but not like what some people descibe when the hose is plugged. so i guess the question is, anyone seen the caps leaking as a common thing or is it likely the hose plugged and forcing oil out the cap? thanks in advance! vjaneczko
Yeah, it's a common problem with our Bricks. Some suggest you replace the cap seal every year, but that seems overkill. $5 buck from FCP will get you setup. Might as well get the O-ring for the dipstick, too. Think it's under a buck. Once you install them, you can wash your engine and check for any more problems like the PCV . . .

blue96850
I replaced mine a little over a year ago while doing pcv etc and its already junk. Put a new one in this week. 70¢ at FCP.
Gilhuly
The oil cap gaskets definitely harden and leak. That having been said, I would gear up to do PCV. Once you seal the oil filler the pressure will move to the next weakest seal and start pushing oil. Not super complicated, just requires tools and is a PITA. Congrats on the 98 GLT. cn90
Changing the Oil Filler Cap GASKET at every oil change is a waste of money and time. Mine only started leaking at 10y/100K miles. IMHO, change this gasket every 5-6 years or so, or whenever it leaks.
