no they dont acutally.

dont ask me why but the failure rate with this is slim to none just as the NA 00 cars also.

For some reason it only seems to be the P2 cars that suck the big one

Thanks ,looks like my 1998 Saffron C70 project has been aborted - long story, but they guy has been working on it 5 months and finally got to

where he could test drive it THIS week only to find out the transmission won't shift after a couple of days. I am totally pissed over how long the guy has been working on it plus he has bunch other stuff besides the drivetrain he needs to complete on the car. I told him he could have the title to the car in exchange for the work he put into it; I'll be retired (I'm 36) by the time he finishes.

I brought a complete powertrain from my totaled Cassis C70 (same year) - engine and tranny still mated, he decided on his own to disassemble it

and mate it to the tranny already in the Saffron (which it is only 2 years old) - once mated the tranny in the Saffron one won't shift and I never had problems with it before. He knew i was driving 6 hours from Atlanta to pick up the car which he promised would be done but he didnt even call me to tell me that car wouldn't shift - I would never had driven the 6 hours IF i had known that.

Not true

Same tranny, and while for some reason it may not fail QUITE  as much, they do fail, especially in 2000 NA's

That I do agree with I had a 2000 V70 NA and ditched it at 90,000 after the second tranny

that and the 2000 V70R seem to be in fail land also

I wish I had! especially when it was in Atlanta and running with the good tranny. It is all the way down in Daphne, AL right now.

My friend owns the shop in Daphne but decided to let a mechanic friend of his handle the swap but using his shop in between normal work hours.

I'm thinking with Chilled Man's input that it maybe the shift software in the P2s; I suspect that with the 4 speed GM tranny's too in the Xc90/S80.

No.

Software will band aid them, but the early 5spds had shitty valve bodies. The GM trannies have no hope at all, for several reasons, but none can be fixed with software alone.
