Installing Kenwood Ddx-7015

I need a little help. I just bought my wife a new minivan so I am committed to keep the station wagon, a 1996 850 Turbo. I would like to install the 2Din Kenwood DDX-7015 touchscreen unit. I think it will look like a real OEM installation.

I need to know where to pick up the Volvo wire harness and a "kit". I think there needs to be some kind of kit. I checked with Ultimate Electronics and they priced out the installation including the wire harness and "kit", but I am not sure what they are talking about. They also told me that there is a $110 charge to mount the DVD decoder for the unit, but I cannot figure out why there would be a separate decoder in a 2DIN sized head unit. I would think that is one of the reasons the unit is so big.

This headunit is also Sirius ready so I can install the Sirius tuner and antenna (on the dash?) and bring the car into the present.

Anyway, this is one of those projects that I think I can do with a little advise/directin. I would appreciate any thoughts from anyone.

Thank you in advance.

Alright, let me break this down fo you. THe kenwood is a great unit and will fit perfectly into your dash since its a double din size. The wire harness you do need but the "kit" that they're most likely referring to is for single din[i/] recievers. Ask them if the kit is for a single din reciever and if you truly need it. I would recomend to you that you not get it professionally installed because you can easily save yourself that $110 and work on getting something else. As far as the DVD decoder, I think you're correct in assuming that it is built into the unit itself. I think they're just trying to make the install sound more difficult that it truly is.

Here is the method by which you install a single din reciever in a Volvo 850. A double din install would be nothing more than doing that install but without the pocket that sits below the headunit.

As far as installing siruis antennas, we had a thread a while back that should solve all of your woes.

Here.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. B)

I really appreciate your help.  I am in the "fixin" mood these days. I just reapired the odometer yesterday based on all the threads. It went well except now I have one loose dash light.  Next will be the tailgate struts and then the radio.

Sal my man... you can purchase wiring harnesses that will plug into your stock harness and then you just hook up the wires to the harness that came with your new HU. You can purchase them from Cardomain
