tboyko
I just sold off my two 12W0-4s and box that I had in my trunk. I would like to replace it with one or two 10" subs. Here is my challenge though:1. I want it to be about as loud or as loud as my two 125W 12W0s were.2. I want to use 10" subs for a tighter sound.3. I'm partial to JL just because I have been very satisfied with them.4. I want to integrate it into my trunk in such as way that it is stealth, or fairly stealth (compared to the HUGE box I had in there before)5. I want to spend no more than $150 for the subs. Ebay is DEFINETELY an option.I would of course prefer to have just one powerful 10" as opposed to two lesser 10"s just because of the amount of space two would take. I am open to custom box ideas and fiberglassing. I like the spare tire mod and the back corner of the trunk mod ideas I have seen, but I'd like to hear some feedback on these designs. Also, I'm not sure I want to lose my spare tire...I'm opening this one up to the board. any advice is appreciated. begin!!
PyROZen
if you want 10"s for less than $150 and are already partial to JL, get some 10w0s. I had one for about 2 years before it finally crapped out for unknown reasons. Tight bass and you only need about 120w per speaker to get decent sound. I only had one 10w0 and you could hear it down the street with only 150w pushing it. JL = good mofo'in speakers IMHOpyro
Ivanfbi
get somthin like 10w6, it will be around $200-250 but it will boom your ears away, and it will be less money than buying two 10w0's and plus easier to wire up and lot less room needed. its 400W RMS, so you won't feel bad bout them. Like this one here.
JPigg34
I would just go with a JL 10W3. My friend has a 12" W3 (older style, not a V2) that he bought off eBay for $80. It sounds great too. Also, consider an Alpine Type-S or Type-R.
AnthonyR
If your not stuck on JL, I would highly recommend IDQ10's I picked up 2 locally a year or two ago for ~$150. These little idq's hit lower than most subs i've listened to and with a whole lot more clarity than you are going to find anywhere (they are definately on par with the jl) and with two of them powered by a jbl 600.1 they also have plenty of hitting power. and one of the the things I think I like most about these subs is their small enclosure. I get all the clarity and volume out of a 0.44 cu ft box. (Recommended enclosure size is 0.25-0.6) Which means trunk space is definatly regained (I built boxes into the corners of my trunk)
tboyko
So is there no real significant loss to getting a single powerful 10" as opposed to two lesser powered 10" subs?

Veneficus
not at all.. remember Bing's philosophy young grasshopper. less is more←On the contrary, I was talking to him about "more powerful" subs and he recomended two tens.

Granted the difference in price is over 200 bucks, but I'd rather have one dope sub, than two bottom of the line ones.
tboyko
Well, after looking around, I'm leaning towards a 10W3v2 sub. I would like to use the same amp I was using to power my other subs (even though its a 2-channel kenwood =/). It can put out either 125 or 150W per channel, so bridging a 10W3v2 would make for a sufficient amount of power for the sub. I was also looking at a 10W6v2, but that would require me to get a new amplifier. I'm hoping that 250W of power to a sub will give me plenty of bass for my taste. It's just a matter of deciding on an enclosure now. I want to keep my spare tire I decided, so I think I will either make a box or do some fiberglassing and fit it right behind my tail light. Will one necissarily perform better? If I fiberglassed, I would assume it's just a matter of making an enclosure that has about the right amount of volume to it and then filling it with extra stuff to achieve the right volume. Does this seem right?
