TyConn
piece of mind because everyone on VS is stuck on the head bolt replacement? +1 for binglax. My friends dad (manager of Gengras Volvo) told me that they only do it because it's liability for them if they don't. The old head bolts are always inspected with a micrometer anyway to see if any stripping has occurred in the block. 90% of the time nothing is wrong with them, so he said if he had a choice, he'd just reapply the lock-tite and torque them back to spec. 7 VII 7
piece of mind because everyone on VS is stuck on the head bolt replacement? lol, well who knows if those bolts were used before? I am sure not everyone on here has had their car since mile 1. And for $33 for brand new 12 head bolts.... that is something that will add piece of mind. I would hate to have the bolts stretch more than they were suppose to and have to do it all over again.
NataSS Inc
Why is it that every time I come to this site it jams every single response on top of each other making it impossible to read any of the reply's?

It doesnt really matter since I don't have to drop money on head bolts ever. How many times have you replaced head gaskets?

In the orginal volvo manual (engine overhaul section) says that you're suppost to measure the length of the bolt and if its not over certain length you can use it again, if you can't trust this there is no use reading any volvo manual again ;)

Volvo5.0
I used the $0 dollar head bolts since it's a total crock! come on guys, really.... As far as re-using TTY bolts here is one article http://www.acl.co.nz/Tech/Torque%20To%20Yield%20Headbolts.pdf I'm sure if you research it most would say replace them DON'T re-use them. Come on, for 33 dollars do you really want to scrimp....

Come on, for 33 dollars do you really want to scrimp.... good article. completely explains the use of TTY bolts and why to not re-use them and makes perfect sense. ...seriously if doing a HG job...why not buy new bolts? especially recent posts about "popping" and such when tightening the HG +1 ...I am one of the cheapest mo fo's out there and I would buy new bolts!..without question
Oreo931
WTF. If you are replacing a HG replace the freaking head bolts. They are STRETCH BOLTS. It's not like they are $150 either, they are cheap. And don't buy aftermarket. No idea why you'd even risk messing up a job like this because you were too cheap to buy $30 insurance on something that SHOULD be replaced anyways.
