DB855R
I've owned a 96 850R for almost 3 years now and since purchased I never had the tracs light come on. My car has a tracs switch but when engaged nothing ever appeared on the dash so I assumed I had an 850R w/out tracs. I recently had my ABS light come on so I was looking to replace the module. Three days ago I purchased another 850R for parts or to fix..this car has a new/rebuilt ABS module put in by previous owner 5k ago works good. My questions are: 1) Is it possible that I have an 850 w/o tracs? (if so how do you tell) 2) Could I remove and replace my unit with the parts car module if that was set up for tracs (would doing so hurt my car any)? Just like to know before I remove both units
Matty Moo
usually if you have a tracs switch, you have tracs. Unless the PO put the switch in there for looks. Some R's have it, some don't. When your abs light comes on, the tracs light should also. You'll see this when you first start the car also. If it does have tracs, throw the other tracs module in there. Pull the module out and see what it says. 9140773 is non-tracs, 9162675 and 9140774 are tracs. DB855R
Thanks for the reply. I just never had a tracs on/off light ever come on since ownership no matter how many times I flicked the switch. I will pull out the module this weekend and let you know. If I happened to have a non-tracs module could I use one with tracs from the parts car? Or how much to rebuild a non-tracs unit if so?Never mind the price just noticed your sig

If I happened to have a non-tracs module could I use one with tracs from the parts car? With the ABS light on, there is no tracs light illuminated? Maybe the bulb has been pulled or burned out. Maybe the switch is bad. Maybe it doesn't even have Tracs. You can't use a tracs module in a non-tracs car.
jablackburn
It might just be the bulb is burned out. The ABS pumps are different between TRACS and non-TRACS models, so if you wanted it, you'd have to switch that as well. Honestly, you're not missing anything and it's not worth the effort. It's not a very good traction control system, the only time mine has ever actually done anything helpful was trying to get going on a big hill in a foot of snow. But trying to dart quickly into traffic in rain, when I need it to actually do something, it does zilch...the tires just break loose and spin like crazy in 1st & 2nd. custom R
You could also simply pull out the switch and see if it connected to anything. A: It is just a dead switch, and is not wired to anything. B: It is a live switch, but the bulb in the cluster is burnt out, so you don't get a tracs light. I don't see why you couln't add tracs if you don't have it (you can add anything to anything if you have the resources). Good luck either way. It isn't useful enough to justify swapping out pump assemblies in order to do it. I've only found it useful once or twice, the rest of the time it just makes a bunch of noise. Never mind the price just noticed your sig every single 850r i have seen has had tracs because it was the model with every option standard, so maybe the previous owner put in wrong module or deleted it the cluster bulb is probably burned out that is why you havent seen the light

TRACS is actually designed to turn off under something like 32mph, IIRC. It's not that much help for anything but starting out in slippery conditions... Also, there's a pic around here somewhere that shows the common failure points if you wanna crack open your module and you're handy with a soldering iron...sorry, OVER 32mph
