Duralast Parts?

Hey guys so after driving my car my brother wanted on so he just bought an 04 s60 t5 stick. The t belt needs to be changed and the lady he bought it off of I clouded a autozone duralast t belt, tensioner, and waterpump. Should he use these or buy Volvo parts?

Aftermarket parts are the last things I would use to replace my timing belt parts with. If those parts fail, so will the engine.

i bought 2 ignition coils for a DD mazda protege5(1 coil powers 2 cylinders each) as preventative maintenance this summer. they were made in china parts that were DOA out of the box, multiple misfires and the car ran so poorly that i removed them and had to reinstall the three year old NAPA house brand Echlin coils that were three years old(made in japan). the only duralast part that i'd buy would be a replacement battery since i know they are made by johnson controls.

They are not all crap and they are not all Duralast. Replaced the starter on my old S40 with a Duralast and it was a Bosch reman. Had a coil fail on the R and bought a Duralast to get me by until my Volvo set came and the Duralast was a Bosch.

With mechanical components however I wouldn't mess with aftermarket.

It's hit or miss whether or not you have a good experience.

I used to work at O'Reilly's and their parts are the best. All most all of their parts are "lifetime warranty" and if you check autozone at best you'll get 3yr. A lot of O'Reilly parts are Borg Warner, and if you can't go OEM that's a good brand to go with. The only time I hit up Autozone is if the product I'm getting is on the showroom floor. If it's a critical part I go to O'Reilly or whatever they're called where you're at.

Also, when I changed the timing belt and tensioners on my S70 I got the whole kit from IPD. The DVD wasn't perfect, but it gave a good idea of what to do. My father-inlaw and I had it finished in 30-45 minutes. We were amazed at how easy it was. His timing belt on his VW 1.8 diesel took two days the first time!

im not for or against duralast because i have never used them but here is an example of what people call "lesser quality" part companies that people enjoy knocking.

Pops ML350... OEM oil filter was like 50+ dollars, looked online to find out that the puralator filter which was 13 dollars was the EXACT EXACT same MANN/MAHLE filter. Simply re-packaged. "Made In germany" was stamped on it, the MANN/MAHLE part # was stamped on it as well, $$$ saved. Notice dealers have no elaborate branding on most of their parts with exception of the brand shotprinted on? Someone makes them for the auto company & you know damn well dealers didnt pay 50$ for the filter, or 15$ for the filter but its markup = profit = dealership = stealership. Yea someone can act all fancy in their same ML350 talking about how 200$ oil change is no big deal, or how people always say to my dad "well if you can afford a Benz you shouldnt bitch about buying expensive parts etc" but when it comes down to it, its being smart with your money sometimes. (which is why my dad has a benz... it was his 3rd new car in his life, the 1st was an 84 Dub 'rocco & 2nd was a 92 Jetta GL Diesel)

Im not saying all parts are like this but do a little research and see what you can come up with. Maybe ask to SEE the timing belt & look for notable markings or stamps that could indicate that duralast simply put it in a box with their name on it.

The only way i would use anything by another manufacturer thats important as timingbelt/water pumpy stuff is if you could be 100% sure it was OEM or OE supplier that happen to be in another brands box.
