Cross Country Road Trip

Having ridden my Harley coast-to-coast before, I'd recommend not missing the Cherhala(sp?) Skyway, The Blue Ridge Parkway, or Deal's Gap. I'd skip Chicago, but that's just me (I got fired and mugged there at gunpoint once). The Longleaf "Scenic Byway" in Kisachee (sp?) Lousiana was nice - but if you go that far south, you end up crossing Texas.

I'm down for a meet in Dallas and New Orleans!

I would be all about hitting up the Blue Ridge Parkway on the east coast and driving through Colorado/Utah but I've driven through there before and I'm trying to hit up new places plus I promised a friend I'd come see her New Orleans

I'm not worried about Chicago, after living in north Philly for a year Chicago doesn't seem that bad

I got an internship with a local National Geographic photographer :)

close, but actually never been out here before this past June and I'll be at NAU

 I wasn't close at all

Hows Nat Geo handle their journalism? Are their photographers all over the place who 'work from home' and basically work on commission?

The guy I'm gonna work for is one of their photojournalists and does a fair amount of writing but he actually does a lot more than just Nat Geo stuff. He is one of their "work at home" type photographer's but he's also been named one of their top 100 photographers so he gets a fair amount of business, local, national and abroad. If you guys are curious his name is David Edwards here's his site

Hmm...well let me know when you're going to be in Fort Worth and I'll see what I can do about making it up there! If I can get up there...you can definitely crash at my parents place. If not, I know Nick (94850tx) has a house there but I'm not sure how busy he will be...

EDIT: And oh yea...FUCK Dallas. That city blows. Just drive right on through.

Thanks! I could use any chance to save some money so I really appreciate that! Lets organize a meet! I should be in that area around October 15th

what no seeing me before you leave ? loooser :P

I forgot to add in my first stop being State College to that new map so looks like I will be driving right by you Justin! I can't leave without seeing my favorite Teabag bandit

Take the long way.

there's a reason I cropped the map of the U.S. to where it is, I'm not looking to go anywhere north/west of Flagstaff on the main trip. Once I'm settled, I'll make a trip up to the true NWC to see you bastards! :D

Jon, the word you want to use is "Freelance" I've never heard of a "work from home" photographer...rolleyes.gif

I used to work with a Nat Geo freelancer when I worked at the National Aquarium in B-more. His name is George Grall, used to specialize in frogs pix. He would get an assessment and sit in swamps around the world and camping for weeks, just waiting.... sad.gif Here is some of his work.

As for places to go, if you like Blues Rock or Country music, maybe Nashville or Memphis? And if you are in that neck of the woods you could hit the Tail of the Dragon! Smoke Mountains are near and so is Dollywood! laugh.gif
