Headlight Questions

i have some ideas about what i want to do with my headlights and i have some lighting/electrical questions that i could use answers for

before i explain my ideas i want to say "why not" to all of you who will automatically say "why"

now that thats taken care of...

is it possible to use a bixenon projector and eliminate the use of the existing high beam?

what about the housing for the high beam makes it put out more light? shape? size? lack of the metal thing that surrounds the bulb in the low beam? (i assume this thing limits the amount of light that hits the reflector?) or does the fluted lens play more of the role in where the light goes?

would it be possible to utilize the high beam housing for a bulb (ideally not h7 but fit in the same hole) that ran only in the parking light switch position?

whats the small hole in the low beam housing for?

gold stars are given for answers

Yes. For an example, see this thread (even though its on an 850 its still the same process)

And here is the thread on my dual projector retrofit on my 98 V70

Shape of the reflector, bulb placement within the reflector help with light output, and the fluting on the lenses controls where that light goes.. If you remove the fluted lens, your HB's will be worthless to you and blind everyone else.

You could, but just use the little hole in the LB housing (thats what it was designed for) Search for something along the lines of "euro parking light" to see how to do that

^ see above

Hope that helps smile.gif

i didnt see anything in the retrofit write up that really answered my question... i know that the tsx projector is bi-xenon but i have only seen bi-xenons done so the highs work in unison...simply wired to open the cutoff shield when the normal high beam is operating.

ah that is what thats for...hm...well it wont do any good with a retrofit but i'll probably drill my own hole for a city light in the low beam...

that being said a city light isnt really what i'm asking about, i would like to have like a 35 watt yellow or amber halogen (arent any 35 watt h7 options) in the high beam housing to match my fogs that ran only when in the parking light position and didnt blind people.

how im thinking i could do this is if i fit a shield like the one for the low beam in the high beam housing around the bulb that would greatly reduce output. as for the electrical i'm not sure and someone smarter than me will have to help me out but i dont think i can just splice into the corner light wiring to do this. could you run 35 watts with the corner light wiring?? and if you could i dont think it would do what i wanted it to because the corner lights are still on when you turn on your headlights...

sigh...

That'd actually be quite simple. Use the positive feed from the high beam to activate the solenoid in the projector, instead of switching on the high beam. Basically, what they did, but you wouldn't have any wires going to the high beams, just your projectors.

For more reading, take a look through TRS's site:

Oh, now I get what you mean. Yeah, no idea how that's gonna work, sorry laugh.gifYou'll have problems with where the light is directed by the stock reflector, its not so much of an issue in terms of light output
