Boost Gauge Opinions?

I'm sure a google search or autometers website may have depth measurements.

Thanks for the reply. Autometer has generic measurements for the 2 1/16" gauges, but there are two different depths listed. Just curious which one we're dealing with. Searched for depth of specific gauges to no avail. One depth listed is similar to the VDO I had trouble with, just wanted to make sure. If they're the same as what I already have here, I'll have the same troubles ;).

As for buying a 30/30 gauge, no chance I'll up the boost later. Running a LPT tuned for 1 bar, so its really as high as I can go. Thanks for the advice though :).

Thanks,

Joe

I have an autometer sport comp II i think as well... but i will say that if you are going for any sort of modification that will get you around 15psi,,, to get a 30/30. The reason I say this is because i have been noticing "boost spikes" and although I know the car is running right, I havent elimintated the possibility of 2 things

1- we discussed the "duty cycle" scenereo with the boost gauge. A mechanical gauge is literally a coil spring type that if you apply boost suddenly will "bounce" up then settle out after the boost has been constant. Also just like anyhting that has a "duty cycle" like an injector there is more room for error the closer you get to maxing it out 100%. So when im seeing a "spike" of possibly 18psi, yet my gauge only goes to 20, it means I might just be at the limits of the accuracy of that gauge. Sadly I havent been able to afford or borrow a 30/30 gauge to see if that is the case

2- the whole parallel TCV & MBC but again $$$ so that too hasnt been resolved.

I plan on trying to borrow a 30/30 gauge first to see if im actually spiking or if a different higher gauge might show that my current 30/20 is "maxing out" creating innaccuracies.

I say this only because I got a 30/20 because i didnt know i would get such a good deal on a tune. So when i was stock, 10 outa 20 psi looks more badass versus 10 outa 30 haha. Dumb as it may sound i know, but now I wish i didnt special order a 30/20 because I would rather know im getting a correct reading vs. making myself feel better by maxing out a gauge.

I have no doubt in my mind i will spike to 16-16.5 but the 18s that i "read" are more of a worry to me. I would like to have a 30/30 to see if im actually spiking to 17-18 psi that way i can remidy the situation by the whole parallel TCV/MBC dealio
