Modus
I would like to know which pads have the best bite all around. I have drove with stock pads on slotted rotors, not bad for stopping power. No squeaks. I asked what is the OEM for the stock pads. Is it ATE or JURID? Is it really ATE? My picture is the stock older style pads compared with new ATE pads. On the ear of the stock pads there's a stamped name of Jurid. I understand that Jurid makes pads too. However the top plate has the ATE logo on it. I'm confused. I installed the ATE pads and have been running with them for about 500 miles. They are very close to stock in fast stopping but for slower speeds 40mph I find myself pressing the peddle harder than I would normally would. In wet weather they seem okay to stock. They only squeak when I back up, no big deal. Dust is compatibly to the stock black dust that accumulates fast. However I do find them to be a bit light on the initial first bite on a cold rotor. Buying pads and trying them out is seeming to be an expensive task. I would like to know which pads are better for bite than stock. So far I have tried: ATE STOCK VOLVO OEM PBR metal master KVR carbon fiber MINTEX Still not happy How does EBC pads work out? What about AKEBONO? I'm looking for good bite and no squeal, Dust I can deal with.
Dave 54
I love the EBC "greenstuff", been running them for about a year now, no noise, very little dust, and they bite really good in lite to heavy breaking, wet or dry! No complaints at all!!!

No complaints at all!!! Have you tried EBC "redstuff"? They look to have less dust and more bite, but I guess kind of expensive. I am not super pleased with my Akebono pads right now, but I have not even done a flush or installed the SS lines yet so it might be that and not the pads. Dave 54
No I haven't used the redstuff yet on a Volvo, had them on my DSM, will be using them next time around as we our heavy cars, but the greens have been on for about a year and there is still plenty of meat on the bone. I've used the EBC Ultimax on the 740, good for a NA or older slow model.
DonutsDemise
I have used redstuff pads on an S70 and a Mazda with ebc slotted rotors and had bad results. Within 6 months on both cars I had the shaky feel of a "warped" rotor. I currently have Akebono pads with Zimmerman rotors and have nice braking characteristics and no noise. I noticed a huge improvement with the Akebonos from the old Volvo pads and rotors but that could be due to the fact that they are new. The Mazda still has the redstuff pads. With those, I also noticed that the cold bite isn't great so if you're cruising down the highway and hit the brakes there is a bit of lag.

Subayai
EBC's are OK, but like a lot of other pads they eat into rotor. I've used EBC Red and Green on both the 850, and a Subaru WRX, and each time while good pads, I had replaced the rotors due to excessive grooving. You should also add Hawk (HP-Plus) to the list, which most autocrossers prefer. Personally I've also been looking at Pagid pads (same as Porterfield). I use, but do not normally recommend due to their excessive cost ($180 a pair), Endless CCX pads. The Endless pads are the best street/occasional track pads I've used/seen. On stock rotors I've never experienced brake fade (brake fluid boil yes; brake fade, no); they are very low dusting, and have always left my rotors almost as smooth as new (PS: for those who do look into Endless, you will not find Volvo in the catalog, it is a special EWIG pad). Dave 54
^^^my zimmerman rotors look just fine after a year with the EBC's, no wierd grooves! I ran them on my DSM for over 3 years and never once had any problems with them. Oh well I like them and will continue using them.
850T5M
I just ordered some Akebono pads for my car, still wondering what rotors to install... Anyone hear that ceramic pads need special rotors?? I heard they will wear off the rotor if its not "rated" for ceramic pads. Is that true? Was planning on getting some semi cheap rotors for the winter so I can save up for some zimmerman slotted next summer. Just I really need to change my pads for now.. 850T5M
Look on FCPs website, they have decent priced rotors and good quality. Brembo, Nordic? Problem is I live in Canada, the shipping kills the whole good price thing cuz of their weight... Im gonna see if I can get similar quality here, my friend owns a garage so he gets me garage price :)
