Antenna Switch Write Up

Ok, so I finally got it working today and I took pictures and everything. The point of this mod is so that when your aftermarket radio is turned on, you can lower the antenna (for instance, when playing CDs and the antenna is not needed to be extended) to avoid wind resistance/noise and to be able to continue listening to a CD while going through a car wash).

Parts needed:

-electrical tape

-16-gauge wire & splice connectors (if you need to extend any wires)

-crimping/wire stripping tool

-4 T-connectors (or 2 T-connectors and 2 splice connectors)

1. Make sure the ignition is turned off. Slide out your head-unit and disconnect the antenna plug and wiring harness from it (and any other connectors) and set the radio on the passenger seat. I used the black antenna switch from an S/V90 that I purchased from someone here on VS (part #9447386). The switch was plugged into the wiring harness and had about a foot worth of each of the 5 wires coming off the back of it. It did not have the entire wiring harness (meaning the full length of wiring and the end adapter to plug into a stock Volvo radio harness).

2. I used the T-connectors for the black and pink wires. The blue&yellow wire is not needed, so just tape the end of it so that it does not come in contact with anything. I crimped the blade connectors onto the end of the black and pink wires on the antenna switch.

3. I had to extend the blue&white wire and the red&yellow wire. Crimp the connectors on and wrap some electrical tape around them to seal them from moisture. Crimp the connectors on to the ends of these two wires.

4. Cut the blue&white wire (I cut mine before the wiring harness connector) and attach one end to the blue&white wire from the switch and the other to the red&yellow wire from the switch. It does not matter which wires are connected to which, just make sure everything is secure.

5. The black and pink wires on the antenna switch were tapped into the black and pink wires on the rear defroster switch (happened to be the switch right next to where I was putting the antenna switch). Any dash switch and its pink (power) and black (ground) wires will do.

7. Put all the switches back in, tuck your wires behind the radio, plug it back into the harness, and sit back and admire your work! The antenna can be set up and down using the switch whenever the head unit is turned on. When the raadio is turned off, the antenna automatically goes down. PM me with any questions.

I'm holding the antenna switch in my hand -

what I see are 5 numbered contacts on its back side -

I have no idea what pair I should use?

I obviously could find out which ones I should be using -

just by trying them one by one,

but maybe one of you guys could just tell me?

contacts numbers?

thank you in advance
