S70 - Console Gauge Mount

I wanted to add a couple gauges on my S70, but I already have a boost gauge on my A pillar and I didn't want it to look too cluttered. I also like keeping the look of my Volvo understated.

I decided to mount them in the console. http://img59.imagesh...g/snc00122.jpg/

After removing the ashtray and it's mounting bracket, I found plenty of room beneath the flashers. I recommend pulling out the radio so you can get your hand behind there when you wire everything up. There are plenty of posts on how to remove it, just make sure you have the radio code when you try to turn it back on.

As you can see, I used a cheap under dash mounting bracket that surprisingly fits in there perfect. I cut-out the back of that little tray where the seat warmer buttons are. I really didn't need to remove the whole console, because that piece just pops out, but what the heck - it needed cleaning.

I had to play with the angle a bit to get enough clearance for the oil pressure tubing. But it was easy to snake everything under the dash to the pass-through located up above the steering column near the box of relays. I pulled the rocker switch out of the dash and connected the lights directly to the dimmer. I used a Y fitting on the oil sensor so the idiot light wouldn't be on constantly.

I'm not trying to advertise for anyone, but I really like the gauges at gaugepods.com - they are pretty reasonable, and have good backlighting.

Did you have clearance to replace the ash tray and heated seat switches? And any links to the pod you used?

No problem with the seat warmer switches. There may be clearance to reinstall the ashtray, but you'd have to cut the back off the mount. It probably would obscure seeing the gauges, though.

I don't have a link to the mount I used. It's not a pod it's a very cheap (less than $10) sheet metal mount that normally you would screw under your dash. I remember just googling it.

Enjoy.

the bulb will blow out under the ash tray. after removing it there is no pressure on the switch that lights it. ive done it

If you're taking about the courtesy light in the ashtray mount with the green plastic lens, I disconnected that when I removed the ashtray mount. I believe that light would interfere with the back light of the gauges.
