zoidberg
I have a 2000 s70, and I have a shudder when I brake. It's more noticeable at low speeds, and the brake pedal doesnt seem to pulse. The shudder doesn't travel through the steering wheel either; it just goes through the entire car, almost as if one of the wheels has suddenly become oval shaped... That's the best way I can describe it. The rear rotors and pads were just replaced and the front ones were replaced about a year and 20 000 km ago. I just had them inspected by a reputable shop and they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes. The only suggestion they had was one of the control arms had some worn bushings. I kind of doubt that would cause this sort of shuddering... In an attempt to fix it, I've rotated tires and greased caliper slide pins, with no effect. Does anybody have any idea what might be going on???

zoidberg
What kind of pads and when did this symptoms started. You sure the rotors is not warp I'm using OEM pads and the stock rotors. I'm not 100% sure there's no warping, but the lack of pulsation in the pedal and the fact that it's only noticeable at lower speeds and lighter braking kind of leads me away from thinking the discs are warped... AverageVolvo
You need the REAR Brake HALF Shims. They are Stainless and have an arrow. These shims rest against the caliper piston. Then the teflon shims and pads.
zoidberg
I figured out what it was... I climbed under the car to check the suspension, and I noticed the left front disc had some more rust on the inboard side than the outboard side. I thought "AHA!", the caliper is sticking. I took out the slide pins and saw that they were pretty dirty and dried up (the dust cap was gone on one of them). So, I cleaned and regreased them, and replaced the dust caps, and presto! Vibration gone. I'm so glad it was a simple fix!
